i read people doning lots of things but can anyone give me a difinitive quide of what to do to the bottom end as i only know half the job.

a good guide it to send the crank, flywheel, clutch cover, cam and alternator belt pully, rods and pistons to the nearest (or best place) place you know of to be lightened and ballenced. its also a good idea to get the flywheel doweled to the crank while you are at it. (get the clutch cover doweled to the flywheel so you put it back on the way they have ballenced it.

while you have it in bits get the rods machined to fit arp bolts and get some good shells that can take more rpm.

there is probably more you can do but that is the basics really

A good start if you don't plan to go racing, and just want a solid reliable bottom end to work with your mods is to approach a machine shop and ask for a 1mm overbore, pistons to match and to have the crank re-ground. Make sure you are supplied with new shells and rings. This shouldn't set you back much more that ?300, but shop around. I'd recommend a new oil pump too for piece of mind. They aren't expensive.

how much are oil pumps as i would not mind getting a new one for my 2.0 when i rebuild it. ive got 50 thou overbore on teh pistons but im not sure how to work out what the ccs will be when its back in the car

whoever is telling you to machine the rods for ARP bolts is telling you lies!!!

a 1300 (1297cc) with 1mm oversize is 1329cc

a 29mm line with a 1mm increase is 30mm long

jesus- if you call that machining.. I dont even charge customers for things like that, its just good engineering practice. i do it with every single bolt home in the block!

If you want machining you should see how I do a crank for a racing car!!!

Fair enough point thou and one which a lot of people miss.
