Can anyone help me with gearbox trouble?

Left me nova away to a mechanic a couple of days ago to get the final drive changed and the gears change to a 5 speed set. Any how got it back, it drove fine for a while until i think i was trying to put it into 5th, then the gear selection fooked up, when it should be in neutral its in a high gear and it will select one other gear which is high. Anyone have a clue what is wrong? I took the selecter off and it seems fine so the problem must be in the box? Appericate any help. BTW the linkage is fine

Everything looks fine. you know where the selector meets with the 5 sticks in the box where excatly should it rest, in the middle of them?

can u not take it back to the mechanics as if its his fuck up surely he should sort it

yeah its going back, but i was wondering if it was something simple i could fix it, as the car is on SORN at the moment cause i've been working on it, so the car has to be towed away about 15 mile and then i've to wait till he can get round to sorting it.

did you make sure the 5 speed gearstick assy was fitted at the same time?

whats involved in the 5 speed assembly? Would this cause the car to be stuck in gear, it won't even go into neutral, apart from using the clutch.

It can do as you may have the 4 speed stick assembly on there, making it hard to impossible to get 5th, making it hard to impossible to get out of 5th, just check as it is an unusual problem so will be a stupid little thing causing it.

Although it could also be the box itself.

could of not tightened the joint up where the selector comes thru the bulkhead to the linkage. if that joint slips then it will do exactly as you say

Any ideas about adjusting the selector on the bulkhead? I see it can move in or out and side to side, any rough idea where to move it so i could then fine tune it. Cheers
