Seen this on couple of novas how does it work i.e using 1.4 bottom and 1.6 top parts? Some1 explain please

People use stuff like a SRI block and a gsi head, gives better performance.
Heres a SRI-GSI hybrid:-

he said that its a 1.6 sri in that link. but he said that its only a 1.6 head on a 1.4 bottom end which makes it a 1.4 still. :?

the later shape 1.6 head cam and loom will be better than the old. for a start they dont use an airflow meeter so you have less restrictions.

so would a GSi head on a SRi bottom make a great difference in performance?

It would make some difference, i don't know how much because the block is still a 1.4 and so still 1.4 cylinders etc.

Putting a 1.6 GSi head on a 1.4SRi block will drop the bhp.

Both heads have the same valves and ports. The 1.6 has a larger combustion chamber so you'll get a drop in compression and lose power. You can skim the 1.6 head to get the compression, but then you will be back where you started.

Adding an MPi head to an SR works as the SR has a poor head design.

So for easy tuning sr or sri?

the diameter of 1.6gsi and 1.4sri valves are the same but the lengths are slightly different.

A 1.6 head on an sri block is pointless unless u skim it like has been said, or you need to lower the compression for a turbo.

It will offer worse performance just being a straight swap.

sr's and sri's are both fairly easy to tune.

if its carb's ur gonna use (T40's) then may aswell go for the sr cause easier to find and you havn't got any electronic managment to worry about or sensors.

If u planning a 2.0XE in future then sri might be best way to go.

I?d start with an SRi regardless as the head is a better design.

without getting too envolved or spending muchos dollars on a SRi engine what are the best things to do to inprove performance. already put on air filter, de-cat exhaust and looking for a 4 branch manifold

You have to spend money and time I'm affraid.

Camshaft, Head work, ECU. Do these and you'll have a fast car.

What sort of head wrok would need to be done? How much will this cost?

porting, mild polishing, casting marks removal etc, maybe bigger valves and so on.

looking at ?300 minimum.

prehaps look at a blyndenstein B+ head OR a cylinder head developments package. lots of different companies about but those 2 above are the known good ones.

what sort of firms offer this type of work?
hows the 1.2 goin cambridge any ways of raising a 1.2i bhp
