View Full Version : At long last, its on the road!
Ok, not quite, but we fired the engine up today and it sounds awesome! Obviously because its a new engine you can't take it too high up the rev range, but it definatley sounds different than before, it has a nice bark and growl to it ;)
I took it on the road briefly, but the rear bumper is catching on the tyres, so i need to change the rear springs over or trim a little off the bumper (its a novadose rear bumper). Other than that it seems to be running fine. Again, I didnt put any stress on the engine.
It's strange driving it after a year. The accelerator pedal is really stiff due to the twin throttle linkage to the carbs. After driving a brand new clio for a year, it's slightly different ;) Combine that with the fact I'm practically sat on the floor and the steering wheel is not directly in front of me, so it's going to take me a while to get use to it, lol.
I left the car at CP's workshop this evening as Will needed to get back and I didnt get time to fit the harnesses, registration plates or rear springs, and i really wanted someone to follow me home just incase anything went wrong (fingers crossed it wont).
Breeny and I are going to CP's tomorrow morning, so I should be able to bring it home tomorrow and give it a dam good clean!
Massive thanks to MC, CP, Cambridge, Will, Breeny, Dan and everyone else thats chipped in over the last 12 months.
Once it's all clean and sorted I'll get some pics and a full tech spec up.
Cheers,
Jim
Sounds good Jim. Can't wait to see it

Sounds good mate. You really can't beat that feeling of turning over the ignition for the first time and hearing it come to life! Rear bumper scrubage sounds familiar - used to have one on mine and it did the same!
Can't wait to see those photographs!
Al

sounds really mint. yep hurry up n get some pics
Cheers guys. I'm eager to get it back home.
There are a couple of jobs that will need doing to it once it's back. The interior wil need sorting and I need to get a new exhaust made up for it, but I'll sort that out over the next few weeks.

Well done mate.
i had to trim some off the novadose rear bumper too, i drove it out of the body shop and heard this loud grinding noise, wondered what it was!
good luck with it and cant wait to see pics.

I'm not going to Trax Epo...I'll be in Cyprus.
Had a bit of bad luck today :( The car started fine this morning and I was able to reverse it onto CP's ramps and bleed the brakes, and change the rear springs over.
When I came to start it again it just wasn't firing :( Thought it might have been due to lack of fuel, so we went and got some more BP Ultimate. This didn't solve the problem though. It was turning over, but not firing :|
I'd adjusted the clutch pedal so thought I might have disturbed some of the ht leads on the dizzy, so checked those. The car then started and was idling nicely. Stu and I decided to take it down CP's Driveway. It was very bumper, and didn?t feel too good to be honest, but the engine sounded ok.
I slowed down to turn around and the brakes were still no better :x Then the rev counter needled started going haywire, jumping erratically from 1k, to 5k, etc, even though the engine was only doing around 1200rpm. The car then stalled and wouldn't fire up again :( We pushed it back to CP's workshop and checked the HT leads again. I managed to get it started again, but it then died almost instantly.
Breeny was in a hurry to get back home, so I've had to leave the car at CP's again this coming week, much to my disappointment :( I was really hoping to get it back home yesterday.
I'll go up either mid week or next weekend to try and sort it out or at least get it prepared for the drive home. Oh well, I guess you can't rush these things, lol.
I shall keep you all informed as events occur.
Jim
The wait will be worth it in the end Jim.

Gutted Jim. Sounds like a bad earth causing the rev counter to go all over the place? Rick

Good to see your making nice progress Jim!
I agree with Rick tho, possibly a bad earth. We had the same problem fireing up Alex's valver! Took ages to start, and ran like shit when started, all down to a bad earth!
