I am going to get the sill on the drivers side of my car replaced because around the rear wheel arch is rotten and its started to bubble below the drivers door, so i thought its best to get it replaced before the winter weather adds to the damage....

Ive bidded on a skin sill on ebay, but was wondering what the deal is with these, do they just go on over the top as a temporary solution, as it looks like a thin sheet of metal that will just be welded over the top, or is it a more permanent answer?

Cheers,
Dan

I think they are just put over the sill to hide the original.

so they arent a permanent repair then?
How would i get the sill repaired so that it wont rust through again for some time?

A new sill, cut the old one out and then weld a new one in, smooth in with filler and spray.
Rust can't be stopped, the only way is to cut it out.
I don't think sills are that much any way, but fitting is.
Heres a website that sells the parts for the MK1:-
Skin sills are ?9, i ain't too sure now, they might replace the sill , but skin implies that they go over the top, like a bonnet skin.
