Hi, I am 17 and have just bought a 1993 K reg Nova 1.2 SX, it has a full stainless steel exhaust system with a de-cat pipe, i was just wondering if it will get through a M.O.T without the cat? Thanks.

Novas aren't tested under CAT regulations, so you don't need it for MOT

Yes they are, if its a 93 it is, try it with the decat dude, it can only fail! its only a few bolts to put the CAT back on

Yeah i always thought that any car after 9th July(i think) 1992 had to have a CAT fitted, but other people have said novas aren't tested under CAT rules.
But as said, get a test station with free re-test if it fails wack the cat back on, and you have lost anything.

Some SPI must come with a CAT because my 1.4 astra is spi and that has a CAT on, 1992 J reg.

I don't wanna put you off or nothing JONO but i think they would test a Kreg for a CAT as they were made after July 1992, and so should have one fitted.
You may get away with it though.

or if you went to the test station and said the car had been fitted with a pre 1992 engine then they will carry out a non-cat test, and write on the pass/advise sheet "owner notifed of pre-cat engine fitted".

Loop holes are cool ;-)

Still works for me matey ;-) , I guess it depends where you take it to and what car it is, I spoke to the bloke who does mine abouts my mates EVO VI that will need MOTing in the next month and he wont do it as they never produced a non-CAT engine, whereas a nova all engines (apart from SRi) could be mistaken for an earlier model
