Hello, for all you 1.2 nova owners i have a question, whats the peformance like for them. Because i did really want a 1.2(55bhp carb version) but ended up with me 1.4 astra(60bhp spi), am i right in thinking that the 1.2 nova would easily out perform the astra do to the astra being bigger and heavier.
Because i have drove my car a few times with L plates on and it ain't the quickest, not really much power, slow acceleration etc, but a 1.2 nova across the road from me shoots off like a little rocket.
So rapid that the front end of the car rises, and yet its only 55bhp.
Whats going on, are 1.2 Novas actual quite quick.

they aren't that bad. out of the box they aren't amazing, but with a few cheap tweaks they can play with SR's.
And no thats not just a K&N and peco BB4

So is the performance pretty close between a 1.4 astra and 1.2 nova.

well i'd say the nova would probably get away quicker due to being lighter

Yeah thats what i was thinking, but i think my astra has a higher top speed. The clocks go to 140.
Hopefully i will be looking into SRI, or 1.4SR territory when i sell my astra for a nova, probably SRI as they are 82bhp and yet the same group as the SR.
Just gotta hope they don't all rot away before i find one.

i think the performance of a 1.2 can be good
i have one and it goes quite well i am going to add a fiter and induction kit to it but straight out of the box i think there ok

my 1.2 is only very midly tuned and still goes very well...it pulls excellently through the gears and has shocked many people.

Its got a Weber 32/34 DTML carb and a K&N filter. Those two have made a huge difference to the sound and performance of the car.

It is soon to have an SR cam and exhaust system including manifold so should be even better then, cant wait...gonna see if i can keep up with some SR boys :D

i am planning some engine mods only small ones first, like a k&n and a peco bb4 back box that would make the car a bit better

dont get the peco bb4 - thats what i have on mine, and it makes no difference to the performance what so ever..but then thats to be expected from a peco

You are better off getting system from an SR/GTE if you want to do it on the cheap like me, and that will give an increase in performance, and will be the same price as a bb4 backbox alone.

how much would that be dan at a quess

I still have the 1.2! and its really really really slow!
the difference between a 1.2 and an SR is unbelievable considering......

ps a 1.2i is the same power as a 1.0!

To get your 1.2 to go quicker you can use the full system from a GTE, this can be picked up from a scrapyard. The 1.4SR cam has the highest lift of all the cams and so than can be put in, ?25 from a scrapyard.
Then the 1.3SR inlet manifold with the pierburg carb, then switch the carb for a weber 32/34.
And finally lose all weight that is not needed, rear seats etc.
Those few mods above should see your 1.2 up into the SR spec, around 70bhp.
Its only for the carb 1.2 though.

Mike-You can pick the full GTE system for about ?50. It will give better performance than any big bore 4.

LOL my mate has just bought a 1.2i for the shell but before he gets to work on it I drove it and it is on par with a fiesta 950!!

Why do you people even bother going on about 1.2 performance, they can't pull the skin of a rice pudding!

pulling away the novas is crap but 3rd and 4th are ok, 5th is the most sluggish gear in a car i have ever come accross, it just doesnt move!!

All of the gears are shite! lol, 2nd is prob the best, but after that its all downhill!

If your fussed about going fast, get a decent suspension kit, a decent set of brakes and carry speed through corners, its not worth tuning the 1.2 imo
