My car is going to be stood still for about 2 weeks at a time... Has anyone got any thoughts about what i should be doing? Ive told my dad just to take it out for a spin every couple of days to charge the battery etc (you might see him at the png meetings LOL) Any ideas?

If you have a battery charger that has protection for overchargeing, you could leave it connected to that. That is what I did when I went away for 2 weeks, it meant that when I got back, my battery was still fully charged and the car started first time!!

2.0 16v on its way soon!!!! :D

if it were me, i would not put the abttery charger on it, i would just get your dad / mam to drive your car every couple of days etc. it will stop loads of shit geting clogged up everywhere. its all very well having a charged battery, but iamgine if a family of rats start to live in your exhaust. u get the picture. There will be loads of shit going off inside mr engine, so best to let it run for a coupel of days.

just another hint, dont leave your hand brake on, just leave it in gear, or your back drums will stick :)

This is my foo...

yeah nova drums LOVE to stick trust me!! i had to replace the shoes after it was stood for 4 weeks!
get a battery conditioner, it charges and discharges the battery so it gets a good memory, shouldnt cost too much.

tyres will sometimes deform if left standing for too long without moving

Dave Pearce, hmm he mixes like a man with no hands

My Grandad owned my first Nova before I had it, and that was often left sat for 5 or more weeks without even being started, and it was fine apart from the drums sticking a bit. The battery was fine left standing, and it started instantly at the first attempt.

My current Nova often sits for a week or so without being used since I work from home (hence why it's only done 3K in the last year!) and there's never any probs.

Evict your dads/mums car from the garage and pop it in there if the car is dry. Going for a 10 mile plus run once a week is best. If your dad can't do that don't bother, as a short run (less than 5 miles) will do more harm than good. In this case disconnect the battery providing you can connect back up easily without the alarm throwing a wobbly. Don't park up in a garage in the winter if it is wet and covered in salt as it will have a lovely time corroding everything. Best to hose it off with clean water ( plus the running gear and underneath) and leave outside where the air can circulate well.

Oh and I forgot to say WD40 applied whilst the car is dry will go a long way to protect your mechanicals and rust prone areas like the sills and arches etc. :)

Breeny mate, Give us your car and I'll look after it over the 2 weeks :D You kow it'll be in safe hands, plus I'll take it for a spin every now and then. If you're lucky I might just wash it aswell, and possibly store it in my garage every other night ;)
