Anyone got any pics or know exactly what is involved in a quickshift kit. I am building a car for autotesting (1600cc and F10 box) and need to get a better linkage. Where can I get one, how much??

from what ive heard them linkages are cheap and nasty

ive got the swan neck type linkage was a twat to fit and had to be modified aswell bought mine of ebay
dont get me wrong its loads better than standard

what are these quckshift things then how are they fitted. i take it that it reduces the throw between the gears, allowing for faster gear changes...

Any pics of them fitted?

no pics sorry its basically a flat bar which we had to put a twist in it then it has a swan neck with a ball at either end one on one side one on the t'other

if that makes ne sence

this may sound a bit thick, but where does it go? Under the gearstick gaitor onto the linkage there?

I've got a Griffiths quickshift gear linkage, there not cheap:

However it probably halves the throw on the gear change.

I fitted a Griffith Quickshift to mine as well, transformed it completely :D

mite sound stupid .... but....

when i replaced my gearnob i just cut the old one off cos it just didn't want to come off !

and what i noticed is that by cutting a inch and a half or even two (extreme) does actually make a considerable difference in the throw of the gear lever.

So if u can't be arsed with linkage n want a slight (it is a slight) improvment , jst cut an inch or so off the stick !

yeah thats what i did to mine, i put the new gearknob on then using a pipe cutter gadget i cut the stick where the bottom of the knob was then replaced the knob, not only does it reduce the throw in shifting but also looks trick!

i bent the lever in mine back 4 inches
makes it a lot easier so i dont have to reach forward at all

i've got long arms so i'm ok. lol.

i can change gear quick enough without the need for linkages to help.

It's a bit more of a reach than usual, but it's a defenite benefit as the gear selection feels alot smoother and nicer, i guess cos your also reducing the play in the linkage

Why not just get some new bushes for the linkage from vaux or something.

I have one with fubared bushes and good bushes, the difference is amazing.

Oh and those of us with long arms...cut off the stick, more confortable.

weve experimented and found that brass makes a nice new bush for the linkage. get on a lathe and make some

You actually experimented a load of different metals to use as a bush!!!

u cant buy the bush on its own from vauxhall as i needed one a few months ago they said i had to buy the whole linkage set up for ?100 so i went to scrappers and got what i needed for a fiver

brass/bronze is "self lubing" to an extent. hence why they are used for valve guides which get FA oil.

i think we tried ally but it was just too stiff and would have worn since its too soft

I will have to make me a bush for it then, out of brass.

Have you had any other problems with it?
