I'VE GOT A DILLEMA,I WANT A FAST NOVA BUT ON A BIT OF A BUDGET DO I=
1. GO THE XE WAY? I REKON ABOUT A GRAND ALL IN FOR WELDING,DONOR CAR,BITS N BOBS ! OR
2. GO GET A GSI ENGINE AND MOD THAT THE "OLD SKOOL" WAY SWAPPING HEADS AND BITS N BOBS ? ALOT CHEAPER!

THE REASON I ASK IS THE NOVA WILL BE TOTALLY STRIPPED OUT SO THERES NO WEIGHT BUT IVE BEEN TOLD THEY HANDLE LIKE SHIT WITH THE XE IN THEM AND I WANT A BACK ROAD BLASTER SO I THOUGHT ABOUT THE 1600 COZ THATS LIGHTER AND YOU CAN STILL GET GOOD POWER OUT THEM !!!

I DONT KNOW !!!!!

ANY OPINIONS OR IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT. THANX. G.S

get a 1.6 16v then. can get just as much power from them as the xe and still have the handling of a 1.6

Please turn caps lock off.

If you are after reasonable power for as cheap as possible then stick a 2.0 16v in. Some people may say theres an issue with handling, but provided you get the susspension sorted and the shell strengthened you should be fine.

why not get a 1600 and stick twin 40's on it thats seems to be a good option too

He probably wont get the same bhp as a valver from a basic 1.6 on 40's for the money he's willing to spend.

tight budget = xe + minor mods like branched manifold, air filter etc

fairly open budget 1.6 T40's etc blah blah

mad bduget 1.6 or 2.0 16V on TB's etc

go the xe way you said your self that 1.6's are to expensive
the xe seems the logical way to go

If you do the work yourself, you can a similar power to weight ratio from a 1.6 as you would with a 2.0 16v from the same budget. I've done it so know its possible.

With regard to handling, you can make an xe handle well, but you'll always have the scope to get a small block car to handle better.

it all depend's on what class you want to be entering and how competetive you want to be. the best bet is to enter a standard class which only allow saftey mod's and a few suspension and brake tweeks
