rite then peoples some help on this would be good cause im the only one out of my mates that has this problem.
when i go round bends fast the front outer arches are catchin on the tyres now i have bent the lip up out the way but its still doing it? so could this be because of the ET of the wheel isn't rite or my tyres too big?
ive driopped it 40mm springs and shox and the tyres are 195/50vr15
any help would be magic coz i dnt wanna munch my tyres.
Thanx
Dave

sounds like the offset is too much. have you had to mod the rear arches?????

could be that your driving style prefers big understeer moments

Try changing to 195/45/15 tyres, but it sounds like your offset is wrong.

it now needs front tyres so i will go for a lower profile but the wheels dont have an et marking on them so i'll have to look into another set of wheels. the rear arches i have modded and i have no probs now

ive jst had a gd look at the wheels and they are ET42? too much do u think? :?

yeah, ET42 will make your wheels stick out a little bit further than they should. ET45-49 is the prefered offset for vauxhall wheels. Try getting the lower profile tyres though, you may be ok.

I thought 195/50/15 tyres were the right size? they are the closest in terms of diameter to 175/65/14 (gte originals)

according to my calculations anyway lol

You may be correct, but the tyres on Daves Alloys are 2cm wider than the 175/65/14 size tyre that you mention, so this is where the problems occur, not in the actual full diameter of the wheel/tyre combo, but the width, hence why Dave could be having problems.

Changing the wall height of the tyre down by just 5mm to 195/45/15 will also change the shape of the tyre wall and may give him the clearance that he needs*

Jim

*The tyrewall shape may vary between different makes of tyre.

yeah i see what you are saying, I just though for a minute you were implying they were too big, my mistake.

and incidently, its more than 5 mm difference, its about 20 in total so 10 either side, which would be even better

Going from a 195/50/15 to a 195/45/15 tyrewall is 5mm diffrence.

50-5 = 45?

;)

I must sound really picky here but the 50 in 195/50/15 stands for 50%, likewise for 195/45/15

a few years back I was trying to work out some tyre sizes for a mk2 fiesta and my mate that does my tyres laughed when i talked about the middle number as if it stood for mm's

Really? I didnt realise that, I always thought it was the height of the tyre wall in mm. My apologies Derek, you learn something new everyday :)
