doing this without removing the head

you knocked it out??!?!?!?!?! feck

you need a tool that presses 2 valves at a time down. Sykes Pykavant (spelling) do one. but its a bit tricky to find.

other than that, just get the head off

laser do a tool to compress the valve then you can remove the follower. do this on all 8 valves then the cam pull pull out easily. fit then new cam, refit the followers by compressing the springs 1 at a time. the tool cost me ?8 trade, so it will probably be about ?10/12 normally.

I take it the compressor to use without removing head is like this?

If so I need one to change my cam and stop the f**king tapping!

Where do these 'clip' to to apply the pressure to remove the rocker?

I can't flip it around and picture it in action.

the threaded bit screws in to the rocker cover bolt holes and the l shaped bit at the bottom sit's on the top of the valve spring. i dont think that picture is one that will do a vauxhall, mine are a bit different but the same principles

It is a Draper one for GM OHC engines.

I don't like the idea of using the rocker cover holes for compressing springs, I have heard stories that they are weak spots but if you hav done it then it will prob be ok, only gotta compress a bit to remove the rocker i suppose.

I'll get one when I do cam change, easier than removing head (MPi lump).

Did you change any other camshaft components when you put your cam in?

about a tenner. the packet say's you need 8 to remove a cam but all you have to do is take out all the follower's then the cam will slide out.

i swapped the followers aswell

you can also get the cambelt on and off without touching anything apart from the cam pulley, save's getting covered in coolant when you move the water pump.

How much for a set of followers and are they the rocker things? It's just I gotta noisy lifter and I may as well change the cam while I'm in there, and oil seals, and followers, and lifters f**k I'll just get a new head!

if you are changing that much, then you should take the head off and have the valves re-seated

I have decided to get a secondary head to work on and I'll do the goodies to it.

Then it's simply change them over!
