View Full Version : ...15's or 16's... ?
Hey ppl,
have heard things like if you get 16's with a low profile they can have the same rolling size as 15's with a larger profile...which makes sense too me...
was just wondering whether 16's with a low profile would handle as well as the 15's with a larger profile ?
really like the look of 16's and can't help thinking 15's look too small...
but don't really want to sacrifice handling for looks...especially if it will handle like a Pig with the 16's.
The car will be having a 40mm drop and probably a front strut brace.
Also, is it worth taking the Anti-roll bars off my SR and putting them on my 'L' ?
Cheers in Advance

16's with a lowerprofile tyre would mean having 40's. which is expensive.
as for the roll bars. leave them off

the choice of tyres for the 16s is poor especially if ur gonna go for a 40 profile. the handling between the two sizes isnt too noticable but if ur gonna get the 16s for the look then ul start to wonder why u didnt get 17s as they arnt too much bigger with a low profile tyre. for choice of tyre and handling go for the 15s but a -40mm drop isnt worth it, go for a -60mm at least.
the only thing is I was thinking -60mm might be too impractical as there are a good few speed bumps around here...!
was thinking of Koni front adjustable shocks...
will have Spax springs to go with them (-40mm)...
sound ok ?
theres loads of speed bumps round me i manage sound just take em steady or find a different route ive never had a scrape with mine
Unless you are into the serious side of handling, you wont notice much difference between 15's and 16's.
A -60mm drop on 16's or even 15's should give you enough ground clearance for most speedbumps. I have 16's, a -60mm drop, a Gsi bumper with Seat splitter and live in Milton Keynes which is home of the speed bumps and haven't had much trouble getting over them.
From the sounds of it your wanting a car to look good and handle well. If this is the case, then I suggest 16's with a -60mm drop. It isn't necessary to get adjustbale shocks, but if you do make sure they match the drop of the spring.
To help improve the handling more you could fit poly bushes all round.
Whatever you end up doing, leave the car a few weeks to let the susspension settle before taking it to a garage for them to adjust the tracking and camber.

(courtney turbo Speedline Allesio 2)
courtenay dont make alloys they only resell them and its not actually possible to turbo charge an alloy wheel so i recon youve actually got "Speedline Allesio 2's" just like hundereds of other nova owners

lol true. i would got for 16's mate with a 45 or 40 profile the you get the looks and handleing
...a set of 15" Alpines with good tyres has turned up cheap locally so I will prob go for them for the time being at least as I'm building my car on a budget!
Cheers Jim...didnt think about the Polybushes...
Which ones would you recommend ?
- Didnt really think about the cost of tyres either until recently...if I went for 16's on a 40 profile tyres are gunna be quite pricy aren't they
Cheers again ppl :+:
i got my poly bushes from rally design. cheap aswell
16s with 195x45 tyres. handles class with 30mm lowered suspension. jst b carfull no c@nt rob's em like they did with mine. shouldnt rub on front but will 24/7 on back even if ur the only person in ur car!!
got pooie 15's now.
Cheers Jim...didnt think about the Polybushes...

No probs :)
There are plenty of places that do them, there are 2 types I think, Red ones and Yellow ones (technical I know, lol) the Yellow ones are slightly softer and better for road use, the Red ones are pretty much Solid and more suited to track use.

They shouldnt rub at the back provided you get the correct offset. Even if you don't the first thing you should do is remove the inner lip to give you more clearance.
Jim
barn whats the offset on the wheel very interested in these me self
Prob go for the Yellow ones then. Cheers!
nam, the ones I'm getting are ET45

I had 16s on my last car, ET 35, had to do a bit of bodywork but they fitted. Rubbed when 4up though.
