I want the looks of the 60mm lowering but wud still like to keep the ability to go down roads with speed bumps!? :? I have a 1.2SPi J reg Mk2. Will the 40mm lowering still give it just as improved look?

depends what wheels youve got. a -40mm drop could give u the 4 x 4 look, id go for the -60mm.
ive got 16's and lowered 40 and i really want 60mm now, just to look a little lower but makes all the difference

mines dropped 60mm, handles really well.
Drop it 60mm looks loads better,as 4 speed bumps slow down

i say -60mm looks really cool. :D :D :D :D
You will find (so i am told) that you will get better handling if the front is 10mm higher than the back, if you look at a 60mm all round car the sill slope down at the front. Also haveing the back at the same height or lower than the front will induce understeer at the front instead of the back, that means sideways.
also depends on what bumpers u have got ive got novadose bumpers also size of your rims and tyre profile 205 45 15's Alloys
if i was to wack it -60mm
i wouldnt even get over a rumble strip let alone a speed bump and id take my nice new neons off which i fitted yesterday
so i say take all into consideration when planning on suspention
all of the above is good advice yeah but no 1 has commented on bumpers
so i thought i would
Bumpers don't really come over the arch though, And aftermarket kits use the same mounting points so won't be any different to std bumpers in the way of the wheels.
I agree that 60mm is alot better in the way of looks and handling and also if the car is as said before 10mm lower at front than back but is a bit poor on ride quality. 40mm is good though, the 4 x 4 look is std suspension and 40mm gives a softer approach to bumps but however you lower the car the springs and shocks will be stiffer and therefore you will feel more bumps and humps but they don't half handle well :D
i was thinking the same thing mate 40 or 60 :?: :?: but i havnt got the money to go for shocks as well so i am getting -50 mm lol, plus it will look better than 40mm but 'should' look as good as 60mm

60mm imo but dont forget to uprate ur shocks
mines 60mm and handles amazing imo

without rolling the arches, would 15"rims be ok with a 60mm drop? what about 60 at the front, and 40 at the back? mines not lowred yet, and the front seems abit higher than the front.
This is a dark area in wheels and suspension, you will never really know until you put them on the car due to a few different factors:
First is that the beam may not be central, the car was mass produced so don't expect the beam to be centrered on it's mounts.
Second the amount you lower your car, generally, is errelevant to the wheels scrubbing as the nova has fairly straight arches all the way to the hump bit on the arch and the suspension would never go down this far, bump stops first.
Third and most important and overlooked, OFFSET. You don't really need to have ET49, I have just got some at ET45 which create a very tight gap between wheel and inner shell and were only just scraping on the arch on the back, the front is fine, doesn't foul anything. The best thing to do really is to try the wheels on, like clothes, unless you know they will fit, e.g. from another nova and seen them on there.
and the front seems abit higher than the front.
erm than the back on std suspension??
P.S. don't do 60 front 40 back cos the front be lower than the back on 40 or 60 all round, you should do a 10mm difference between them like 60 back 50 front, I'm doing 60 back 40 front :D.
