At last 12 days graft and a budget of 500 have produced the following little gem, but first a great big thanks to CP, without his help this would of never been done, and secondly to all those that chipped in where poss to keep the deadline.

The outcome has been a car that handles like a real dream and is very flighty, but the biggest difference is the performance. It really does fly now, the difference is to much to really describe but lets just say the 1/4 miles will be alot lower next time round :D

I'm well chuffed in particular that the mods done have translated so effectively into a successful end product. To take weight loss to the extent dan has done with this car has to be seen to be believed. Its actually given itself positive camber on the front wheels its sits so light. I drove it a little and the accelration from standing is startling even with only modest revs on. It just pings off like a go kart. The full shell stitch weld is a revelation - it feels so taut and together - just like a new car. Feel and response is amazing.

This is the definitive article when it comes to a 1.6 8V na Nova - it is going to be easily the fastest one I have ever come across and as for VFM - its way off the scale.

PS I only did the welding and the spraying - the ideas of what to do and how are dans with input from a few others. I'm not bragging cos I was involved I'm just reporting what I discovered when i drove it cos i had no idea how it would turn out. Lot of interesting lessons learnt

what other mods have you got with the 1.6 on 40's?

When you say a full shell weld what kinda places have you welded?

liking the brake and fuel line setup. where you get the unions for it and how did you run the lines through the bulkhead, proper fittings? just wondering for the MOT people like

PPS a few " interesting facts" lol

To stitch weld a car throughout will take around 2.5 -3 kgs of 0.6mm mig wire.

To paint a Nova inside and out from end to end ( 2 pack) takes about 2.5 -3 litres of primer filler for 2 coats - exactly 3 litres of metallic top coat for 2 coats and 2.5l of clearcoat for the final 2 coats.

Stitch welding in this instance is done to enhance the strength of all the main body areas without adding any more weigth than necessary. So all the seams in the engine bay and under the front wings to strenghten the main chassis legs throughout. Both sides of the rear of the engine bay and down round the lower suspension pickup points. All along the floor pan edges and extended up and through into the rear picking up the rear arches and stregnthening them fully. Finally across the rear panel

Dan, i will be doing donnington again on sunday 8th of august if you and cp are up for it? it's only ?140 for the day. that's cheap.

quick question. why has the panel between the turrets been removed?

complete guess but i'd say
1. weight loss
2. better air flow to carbs

Err what day is it???????????????????

Anyhow the car is done. Well done to Cp and Dan.
Cps work shop again comes up trumps lol. what could have taken weeks or months was created in days
Done on budget and fixed within deadline. Pretty fucking mad tbh.
Top paint job to Cp. Brave man to take it on but well done. :)

Alot of weight has been lost from this car now. so i expect to see it go quicker on track and 1/4mile. Just fucking glad it all worked ! I also think once you can get the car to sit a tad lower it will make even more improvement on handleing:) hence even quicker.

Anyhow it was a fun weekend. Cheers to cp for having us. (makes a good tea boy actually.) And well done to both you and dan!

 8)

i have some hi res shots of the work done.
also have some of cps/mc's Beamer . post em up soon

Brake line info.

We used 4.75mm soft copper brake tubing. I have a flaring kit and we used 10 mm unions on the flared ends where they fitted (flexible brake pipe unions) and used appropriate recovered nova ones else where (on the master cylinder basically)

The brake lines were simplified as per rally spec - ie one line to both rears and 1 line to both fronts. This requires the lines to have a "T" installed which i got for a few quid each from a local pneumatic suppliers. These come with olives so no flaring is needed. Spare outlets on the master cylinder are blanked off using a little piece of copper pipe crimped and brazed to seal it up. Right angled unions were used to go down through the body at the rear and through the bulkhead at the front just above the central tunnel again with the olive connectors. The normal brake biassing valve was retained for the rear circuit. The front circuit was bent and formed to go the same route as the std setup

The whole thing is very easy and straight forward to do really and not too expensive

That is a spectacular amount of work to achieve within such a small amount of time. Cant believe it.

Dedication's what you need!

Top work people. Most impressed. now get it on the 1/4 mile so you can show us how much improvement you get for your ?500. :D

naturally we did have some breif time for messing around

Chris t had just been cruising and spinning them wheels down at maccy d's in the old gte

http://www2.novaload.net/files/dan/fin9.jpg

He even removed a headlight to see if the one donkey power would work better with more air flow
