what is the best way to take the wheel well out and how do i make it smooothe
my guess would be to angle:twisted:grind the b*****d  out then weld in a sheet of the correct size...

would the back end need strengthening
or should this be ok with just a sheet across
like this, as it give you more strength

im using a single skin of fibre glass over the top

where does the other side join on to
its an X between the two chassis rails. the bit you cant see is almost at the very end of the rails at the rear.

ok
its late and a little tired
cambridge>> is that to keep the weight down, or because the welded in cross members provide enough strength so that a sheet of metal is not needed????

witht the fuel tank bein so close
just run it empty then wip it off, better to be safe than sorry, or you could just put like wet towels everywhere, altho taking it off is better
you'll notice in the pic there are 2 straps just infront (under) of where the well was. they are the fuel tank holders. and you will also notice that there is a bit sticking out that i left, thats for the drivers side tank mount, i will be securing that to the strut brace once thats in its final place.
i cut it out with an air hacksaw thing. as the grinders were being used, and they wouldnt fit under the temp brace i fitted due to me cutting the back pannel off too.

Cheers, taken a lot of time to get it like that. Windows are cool and get a lot of attention at shows but a bit of a bitch to keep clean. As the cars my daily driver she's started to pick up a few knocks and scratches so she'll be back to the body shop by the end of the year.

Would like to change the colour but its all about the cost of getting the engine bay done again etc. Got some great ideas but no capital as with quite a few people I guess.

I was planning on doing all this carbon work for everyone but since the girlfriend drove her car into a Merc and injured me and rendered me with limited movement at the moment its looking unlikely I'll have as much time to do it before I go back to uni.

thanks mate
where about are u
Al Wilson
18-07-04, 09:54 PM
Northish London mate, J 26 M25.
when u cut the wheel well out it does weigh a bit, even more with the wheel in it,
as long as u dont cut right up 2 the chassey rails u dont lose any strength
then the plate i welded in was a lot lighter that the well
stop talking toilet, how can that lighten the rear end???
you big poof!!!
as above,ben
badnova
18-07-04, 09:57 PM
its prob easier and lightier
badnova
18-07-04, 10:09 PM
so i wont be worth puting the steal rails in as it not needed
is that wot u are saying
Al Wilson
18-07-04, 10:10 PM
You don't lose much strength if you cut it in the right places. And to be safe I put in a rear strut to add sideways strength.
badnova
18-07-04, 10:15 PM
yeah that what i thought
when u look at the floor u can see where the rails lay...
i cut about an inch in from them so all the strench was still there
i've had an xr with f20 stilling on it,and not had a prob
Firstly, this should have been in styling/technical.
Secondly, BadNova, why do you want to remove the spare wheel well if your going to be putting a load of ICE in there anyway? It would be a hell of a lot easier to build a false floor.
Jim
iirc didnt rick use a others cars bonnet as a floor in his purple valver (rjm 25r)
:D
