View Full Version : ...Tech Differences...GTE and GSI
ok seen this on one of the local forums and it made me think...
differences I can think of between them
- Bodywork
- Interior
- late GSI's had CAT's and dispack (whats dispack again?)
Am I right in thinking they used different ECU's also ?
what other technical differences are there ?
so your saying different outside, different inside, and different engine. not left us much to go at have you :D
no i said bodywork, interior...I didnt say different engine...i asked if they use different ECU's...maybe try reading the post before you open your mouth ? just a suggestion.
and as post suggests I'm after technical differences like weight etc

it's all the same, apart from exhaust, ecu, facelift stuff.

looking at the performance in TOTAL VAUXHALL the GTE has slightly
more BHP than the GSI
due to the gsi having a cat.
the gte and gsi had different software. Bosch and siemans, although late gte's ran the same as the gsi's i think
There were three different injections systems made, Siemens Bosch and The in house one (later one can't remember name known to be shite). And wasn't dispac just the ignition side on the later system? Well each had differnet wiring looms and ECU's and components.
The best system ever made was the Weber alpha system but no-one has got a couple of grand spare! P.S. if you are reading this with some throttle bodies for sale PM ME! - Robb or robb@tms-stores.com
Interior is different and bodywork is different due to the change over to MK2 look around 1990ish????

ok the GTE run bosch jetronic L3.1 along with most of the gsi's with the exception of the late 1993 GSi's which used GM multec instead which had a cat and dispac
the bosch L3.1 doesnt run ignition system directly, it provides some details to another unit (mounted on the bulkhead) which provides the ignition system
its this bulkhead mounted unit thats different between early GTEs and the rest of them - early gtes had a bosch unit later ones and gsi's had siemens unit and slightly different wiring looms to match
the GM multec system isnt actually that bad - the 1993 gsi with that system made the same power as the earlier engines even tho it had the cat and stricter emission laws to contend with
its also the system used on all the small block injected engines after that including the 1.6 and 1.4 16v lumps (although those feature sequential injection which the GSI does not)
