for the princly sum of 80 quid. only thing is that the logbook has been sent off saying it has been scrapped anybody know how to go about getting it re-done, only needs some welding doing, and as can be seen from the other post my welding expertise are improving.

from what i can see so far without having it up on the ramps is theres a steering prob, and just the welding, the lad i got it off had no time to sort it or the inclination and his old dear made him send off the logbook whic is a pain in the arse.

may have to break it if its not cost effective to put it back on the road :?

your best bet is to ring the dvla
you might have to take a vic cheak
not 2 sure on how the syste works but if the car gets scraped and then fixed to put back on the road im prity sure you have to get the vic test
i think it will cost 26.50 for the test and then you will have to register it in your name with the dvla

i could be wrong but give them a ring and see what they say
let use know mate

by the way not bad for 80 quid

Ste_Nova

becouse its surposed to be scraped and if they see it on the road or in someones drive it might have been stolen fromthe scrpayard or something

coz thats what crimals do

novashed
11-07-04, 08:01 PM

interior is ok, stings of weed, not my thing as i dont smoke. fumigated it with nice apple and peach air fresh.

so what should i do STE, get a VIC check, register it, repair it, MOT it then tax it
the VIC is not much money, repair shouldnt cost bugger all, not sure on the rest apart from the tax

Mel

iff u can get the car registered again but u can't get it road legal or u can't do the wielding will u sell the car because iff u do smitty might want it because he's had his car half inched

Mike.
11-07-04, 08:45 PM
oh yeah not bad for 80 bangers

novahead
11-07-04, 08:54 PM
80 pound bargin saves it from the srappy thow

novashed
11-07-04, 09:02 PM
right think ive sussed it

firts off i need to repair it, then get it MOT'd, then the VIC check can be carried out. itl then need registering probably given a new plate 'Q', then when thats all gone through it can be taxed.

MOT about 40
VIC 26.50
registration ?19? (i know its that for lost docs but this is a different form will have to see)

so if i can get it all sorted for less than ?200 ill be happy

badnova
11-07-04, 09:06 PM
yeah that it mate

its the same for insurance cars that have been writen off
get it repaired and it will be a good little car

dan_mk1
11-07-04, 11:33 PM

Dave

I personally would phone the dvla say there has been a mistake saying the car was scrapped and try an get the docs back in your name an with the original registration mark, can find out with a simple phone call what's needed.
i'd rather not spend all that cash on trying to sort it out an find out other way was cheaper!

but for ?80 you can't grumble can drive it round for as long as you need an still brake it an make your money back!

Ste_Nova
12-07-04, 10:48 AM
it only costs a stamp to apply for the v5

they will either send the v5 out

or ask for it to be vic tested

novashed
12-07-04, 11:56 AM
i think ill do what you've said STE, just plead ignorance

Mike.
12-07-04, 12:00 PM
i heard that once the documents have been sent away especially for scrap they get destroyed and the car has to be scraped and crushed because of the forms being gone and the goverment will then say that that car has to be destroyed for recycling.

i found this out because i went to a scrap yard and found a mint calibra i asked iff it was for sale but the guy at the scrap yard sed no because of
^^^^^^^^ the above

Dave
12-07-04, 02:04 PM
lie then!
say vicious ex-girlfriend stole form an sent it off as scrapped an has only just told you about it

Mike.
12-07-04, 02:14 PM
u could try lying
doubt it would work tho

Ste_Nova
12-07-04, 02:40 PM
just apply for the v5..... there is nothing else you can do!

No it wont be given a Q plate- thats for when the age/identity of the shell is unknown and undeterminable.

If only the log book was sent off for scrap then its fine, the shell will still have its identity.
Just apply for a new V5- say you were told it was lost when you bought it- dont mention you knew it had been signed scrapped.
if only the form was sent off, and not the Vin you should be fine.

As long as its
a) roadworthy (by mot and vic test)
b) identifiable
c) not written off (cat a/b breaker only)

you will be fine.

spent all day tuesday working on the thing, got all the welding done (i hope), a couple of pics of some of it:-
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v310/novashed/DSCI0006.jpg

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v310/novashed/DSCI0004.jpg

also sorted
-handbrake managed to un-sieze the adjuster and tighten it all up

-gearlinkage all working smooth now and able to select reverse

-centred the steering wheel

-gave a good hoocver out and scrub down stunk of wacky bakky, ( found all sorts, ?3, pipes, backy tins, countless parking tickets)

- sorted the exhaust rattle and leak, resorted to cutting and weld tailpipe in a different postion so it looked right after tinkering

-put a few tie wraps on one of the CV boots and re-greased it

- put new headlights on from my old baby

- repaired cracked grill

about it i think, just need some front tyres, tracking sorted, align headlights and then get in for an MOT, OH and hopefully get the logbook back ok :!:
