Hi people i currently own a 1.4 nova flair in white. And i had a few lists of mods for the future. However after being out inma car today i've realised how bad the engine is and am thinking of a new one. And i basically just wanted to know how much, from like a scrappy or somet . something like a 1.6 turbo would be or lower litre but still turbo. Im only 18 so insurance may go up a bit, but this is the road i want to go down, also how much is it to get the engine fitted. And finally whas the best thing to get, I am currently paying a grand for insurance and dont want it to go up too much. Thanks people.

a 1.6 turbo?? from a scrappy?? NO mate because vaux never made a 1.6 turbo  c20 LET <---cav turbo or cally turbo will cost you around ?1000 to ?2500 depending on condition and scrapyard maybe cheaper the only way you will get a 1.6 turbo is buy a gsi lump get ya self a turbo (escort rs turbo) and call up some companies and have them make you a custom manifold for the engine :P

Huh? Who said they do a 1.4 turbo? Dan said to tune the 1.4. His comment to turbos being fake was a joke i think.

The nova has never had a turbo fitted! There might be a way to fit one from another car thats in a scrap yard ?
Best bet would be to ask a scrap yard owner if its possible to fit a turbo from another car to a nova ?

so whats the cheapest best thing for me to go for then, for sound and power and that wont overheat or sound dogey (tappets n stuff) . Whats the cleanest thing to go for, the reason i thought turbo is because i wanted a dump valve. But i know there is a lot of different opinions on dump valves. So if u guys are sure i cant get a cheap turbo put in, whats the best engine for speed and power for me to go for. My dads got a 5.5 litre , boy thats fast, if only i was 21 and had loadza cash.

Put the handbags down.....

.....post another topic to attract the attention of someone who has actually done a turbo conversion to a nova OHC lump and they will be able to help you. All these comments are a bit of a dig at everyone.

on a serious note if you can improvise stuff then you could put a nova turbo together for less than ?200 to run low boost would only involve making 2 adaptors to fit a renault 5 carb to a nova inlet manifold and and the other 2 mate a r5 turbo to the nova exhaust manifold then making up the relevent pipework and oil supplies etc, wouldn't like to comment on how reliable it would be and it would have to be used with low boost or there would be fueling issues, as for insurance costs im 20 and this year it will be ?1800 to insure a 1.6 16v turbo fully comp with all mods declared and ive been banned before aswell so its not gona be ridiculous.

tbh if u want a turbo thats easy to fit ur best option is turbo diesel with a dump valve
