Just wondering what you guys use on your side of the pond in competition 1.3/ 1.4 and 1.6 engines.

I've just had a piper 300 installed.

Why do you ask?

AST 11 is a road cam..

just nosey i suppose.

Ive had huge success in several disciplines with AST18 profile and the NVO82

Use a lot of Crane profiles in stock rod engines here, also the 743 from piper is good too.

but im building a new engine for a customer using an experimental cam from Holbay.

Anyone ever used them in a nova?

i don't think there are many proper competion cars on here. dunno what big russ is using but his is quite a high spec for rallying

Does CorsaNova_mark still come on here? think he used to have something to do with rallying?

My car has to be driven everyday as well as fly around lanes by night so it can't have a ridiculous cam, wouldnt want one anyway!

Kent fast road, think the same as above? They do other ones though with different profiles.

the ast11 is a step below ast1, correct?

Er not sure have the Kent book at home that came with the cam - its got 1000's in it, should be in that.

for comparison..

ast11- 1500-5500, 405thou lift, 262 duration

AST18- 3250-8000, 498thou lift, 304 duration.

but the ast 18 is a mech profiile and they are done on a 10thou check height as opposed to a 4 thou for the hydralic ones so in theory they have more lift and duaration than speced on the same check heights.

Steven would have been putting a Race cam and solid lifters into the engine he's building me, but i'd just bought brand new hydralic lifters from Vaux @ ?98.

Now using a Piper 285, which should be pretty good for both power runs and driving about town!

In answer to your original question, I don't actually know of any car on here that has a full on race engine with the power and torque curve associated with it. The closest is probably CP's 1.4 16V. I know it has a wild cam profile but unfortuanatly I don't know what as Velos didn't divulge that information to us.

Jim as mentioned earlier is using a 300deg piper, but thats not been used yet, and the closest I have come to putting a competition cam in an engine was when I started plans for a 1400 oval racer. I was going to use the one specified by piper, their 320, but that is only because they specify that it was for oval use, and my experience of competition cams is limited. The guy started work on his car then disapeared. Glad I didn't get started.
