15 td starting problem

a friends corsa 1.5td will not start
when the key is turned, the glowplugs work, but there is nothing else happening. there is no voltage drop when the start position is tried. the connections to the starter seem ok.
is there a relay or common problem somewhere that will help me?
when the car is towed, it bump starts ok.

have you checked all earths, some times an earth strap may be lose or have snapped

I checked the earths first. there is definitely an earth connection

how many miles has the car done, the valve clearances go to pot after approx 100k and need to be redone, my 1.5 was really bad for it, fialing that then check your fuel filter and starter power connection, sometimes the solenoid arcs out and it looks ok from the outside until you take it off and its all cracked inside
