View Full Version : just got back from donnington(new pic's added)
went on my first track day today, it was awsome. there was 1 other nova, a loadof elises about 20 caterhams and a few other stuff. it was at donnington on the short course(national?) it was suspossed to be a sessioned day but there were only about 40 cars so it changed to open pit.
i killed 2 tyres(passenger side) but had a wicked day. next on the shopping list is a cage and some decent suspension. i was quite surprised by some car's. there were 2 elises and caterhams that were not being driven very well and held me up quite alot and i passed alotmore stuff than i thought i would. i'll get some pic's up soon.
the other nova was a bright yellow 1600, he said it had 115 bhp, it was totally stripped, no dash, full cage, i got chatting woith the group of lads he was with and let one of the guys have ago in mine, he reconed there was nothing between the our 2 nova's, performance wise, but when i was chasing it i was on his bumper on the straights and sweeping bends but through the twistie bits i couldn't get near him. i need a cage and strut braces i think. along with him was a 500bhp cossie and a E36 M3. they were all using timing gear. the yellow nova did it in 1min 34 the M3 did it in 1min 32 and when they hooked it upto mine i didit in 1min 37. the cosworth got kicked of for repeated warnings about noise. even after being told to back off at top speed he continued ragging it.
i can also add a new gearbox to the shopping list, i spent too much time redlining 3rd or trying to wind up 4th need one with closer ratios ( or another 500rpm)

oh yeah, nearly forgot. how's this for a introduction to track days. first 2 laps behind a saftey car, on the 3rd lap(1st fast lap) a 3.0v6 auto omega seriously overcooks it right in front of me. he snaked about a bit then did a big spin and ended up stopped in the middle of coppice facing me.
sounds like a very good day ben and the shoping list sounds great too, as for keeping with the 1600 good going and lol at the tyres :lol:

it was brilliant. well worth the money. i will get some more pics up soon. the GF took 2 roll's of film of me on the track i get them back on tuesday

sounds like a good day, would have loved to have gone being as its only about a mile from my house but i had to work all day instead

out of interest, what brakes/tyres were you using?? did you change em espec. for the track?? how much did it cost ya all together??

brake's are astra 16v calipers with vaux disc's and pad's. and the tyre's are 195/45/15 eagle f1 gs d3's. the brakes were excellent and i was braking later than most thing's on the track, the tyres were good but as you can see they took a hammering. the one in the pic is the front passenger side tyre and that was the worse. it didn't help that i was more interested in getting sideways than going fast, if i drove more sensibly i'm sure the tyres would have lasted better.

my cousin has a fiesta si (1.25 16v...oooo! lol) and to be fair they are slow as f uck.
Zetec S's are what 1.6 ?
zetec S's are 1.6 16v, they are a bit faster that a saxo vtr. i quite like them but they could do with being abit faster.
Skoob. it's a 1.2 5 speed box, in 3rd it gets about 90mph. most of the track was spent at the top end of 3rd or bottom of 4th. with a closer ratio one it would be in the sweet spot in 4th. i fitted my cam tonight so it will probalby rev abit more now. :twisted:
ah right, sounds like my old gearbox on my old motor, would be fine uptill 5th then would loose any acceleration :lol: I'm running an F10CR pulls in all gears 8)
mine pulls upto 120 in 4th and sit's there in 5th
best I got was 110mph(on the clock) on the old 1.3 SR with just a weber 32/34 ITG filter and a back box of some type, took a while to get there too lol
mine will accelerate straight up to 120 no probs. the most i've got was 130, the same morning i crashed it. :evil:
hmmmm... due to a lack of interest in the parts I have for sale, i'm tempted to get this 1.3 back together :|
hehe - I keep saying this about taking Novas on track days - they are a lot faster than most peeps think and aquit themselves well on track days. More peeps shud try it -its wicked fun esp when you ovetake some of the more exotic stuff.
MC managed 1 min 32 and I did 1 min33 there * ahem* not that we were timing of course cos thats forbidden lol.
