You need an exhaust system to create BHP

Get an ashley one, they do a mild steel full system for ?250 ish, you don't need stainless, unless you wanna roll it to show the shiney pipes!

Yeah but with a stainless you will NEVER have to replace it (unlike the mild steel). Quite a good benefit me thinks

But to be realistic a mild steel one will last about 3-4 years, most novas will only last about that much anyway, obviously there are some very clean ones that will last longer but at the rate that engines and bits are selling at the moment the nova will be on short supply within 5 years.

Unless of course it's for aesthetic value, they do look nice and shiney and you won't get rust falling in your eyes from it when you fixing underneath.

plus it means you can save a ?100 or so to spend on other things.

You could very easily get a full stainless steel exhaust for that money-therefore you're not saving any money.

As for the life of the car/time you own it for i suppose i agree with that i just like to get the best stuff for my car. Also when it comes to selling the car it will be more appealing and worth more (not just with a s/s exhaust but if all the stuff you get is quality-i figure if i'm upgrading stuff i may aswell get the best there is+never have to replace it again)

Okay so they're abit cheaper, but it'll fall apart after 3 years.

If you just want it to sound nice i would advise just getting a back box (i think scorpion sound the best) and get a k&n filter coz that makes them a lot louder-if you just have a b/box it will sound okay but a k&n will really make it grunt :D

And if you are after performance then get a full system and filter as these are the cheapest and first things to do to improve flow, nova engines respond well to a bit of space in their pipes!

You could even have the exhaust painted or something to improve lifetime. Still cheaper than a stainless, also i have seen some comments on here that ashley exhausts sound excellent.

Their website isn't much but has a form to get a quote:

http://www.ashleycompetitionexhausts.com/ phew that took a while to type!

I have an in depth conversation with a bloke from Ashley (john) and he gave me some good answers on the systems. He had a mild steel full system on his escort for 7 years with no problems.

They come power coated in black.

He actually refused to sell me an exhaust though and told me to go to Rallydesign (cant remember website) and tell them that he sent me as they are cheaper than buying directly. Buying direct from ashley is very expensive (about ?320).

212 for manifold & system delivered including vat :D.

Thankyou....

Someone with some experience of an ashley system, and the price still drops and lifetime grows!

Mate if you want to buy cheap parts for your car thats your decision, dont take it out on me-i like to only buy desent, quality stuff for my car-so paying an extra ?100 for an exhaust that'll last me the lifetime of the car and not give me any trouble seems good to me

Ok calm down people, sorry I wasn't trying to take it out on anyone, just pointing out that an ashley exhaust will last 7 years (as Alex said) and cost around ?250. Ashley also have a good reputation and are more interested in performance rather than money and looks, Ok so they have a shiney bean can but that is common on all systems except rally systems.

So going back to previous question

mild steel manifold and system - 7years max ?250

stainless manifold and system - lifetime ?350 system ?150 manifold

I am gonna leave it at that now, here's the facts.

one of my mates had an ashley system. it sounded f*****g loud, a little bit raspy but sweet as anyway n it gave a few nice horses - my opinion is they are a good buy for the money. however iv heard a stainless magnex system too, that also sounded f*****g awsome but as you will know they will cost you more. if you cant make ur mind up, flip a coin! :D
