Told me that too. 10 people, ?1200 development costs and then the cost of the bonnet, probably ?500. Good luck procomp.

Mine was a slightly cheaper option!

Was ?500 for the skin mate and then I spent ages fixing it to a bonnet frame. Long arsed job. :?

No thats why they were jack asses. Promises blah blah, ended up just getting the skin. Its taken ages but mines all finished now, fibreglassed onto a bonnet frame, about half the weight.
Where as they were 'suggesting' I bond it onto the original metal bonnet - er the point in that would be, add more weight!!!!!!!

God if want a job down properly do it yourself... which I've done :D :D

I am trying but it took me 2 years to find someone to make the skin originally so finding someone else is proving tricky. If anyone knows of anywhere I have the mould for use. In the mean time I'm keeping an eye out!

Only worked with flat panels so far. Have you worked with the 'raw' carbon matting? Because I can buy that, it's just a question of where I'd get it lacquered for the top layer. If I could do that with the mould, making them shouldn't be too hard as I've made my bonnet once I had the carbon skin.

its not that much diffrent to fibre glass
ill se if i can find out where you can get the laquar from

all you have to do is

1was and polish the mold atleast 3 times

2 coat the mold with release agent

3 brush a clear gel coat on the mold

4 lay the carbon fibre matting in

5 then put normal reson on top of the matting making sure there is plenty on

6 build up the layers as required

i ask dad he he does it coz he does that sort of stuff
this is how he does it so it does seem to be that hard
you can get all the stuuf you need from most car factores

badnova

is the same except for the material

Al Wilson
18-07-04, 09:26 PM
Thanks mate, I'll look into getting the stuff from somewhere local to me. Doesn't seem too complicated and after a bit of practice I'm sure I'll be able to do it as it seems like backwards fibreglassing as I'll be using the mould and pulling it off from that.

Don't need to mate, just make templates and get a flat carbon sheet.

would look good with them done like the standard one though

badnova
18-07-04, 10:24 PM
all i got to make it the pocket and handle bit
then use a flat sheet like you have

Al Wilson
18-07-04, 10:26 PM
Oh right, I haven't bothered with the pockets although in my car it'd be bloody useful! Give us a pic when you're done, be great to see. The Europian Corsa I saw at Wicksteed today was amazing, nearly every interior panel was carboned up! :!:
