View Full Version : 1/4 mile Novaload day.

Anonymous

Right, after discussing this with Ian, we have agreed that even though it is close to Trax, the Santa Pod RWYB day on 9th Sep should be the day for our Novaload 1/4mile challenge.

The idea is that we get enough members together to fill classes for each engine size (listed below) and award a trophy or prize for class winners and possibly runner up also. We will try to get another club to join in, possibly Corsas or SAXO!

Ian will get in touch with various mags so that we can get a feature, and all become famous.

Before we can get a mag involved, we need to know what level of interest we have, so can you add your name below along with your engine capacity. I will then contact you or u can mail me tech specs so that we can draw up a definate table. So we want definate positive responses, not maybe`s.

Classes;

950-1250cc
1251-1450cc
1451-1650cc
1651cc and above.

The classes are set up like this so people wont get chucked into a higher group if they have had slight over bores (he he).
All members are welcome to join in regular or not, but no non members I`m affraid.

(This is a rwyb day, so if u dont drive a Nova you can still come and run the 1/4, but u cant enter the comp, sorry.)

Thing is, will you take into account 1.4's with no mods against a 1.4 with Twin Webbers? Also, someone like myself who has some engine mods, but nothing major would not want to race against a 1.4 with Twin Webbers and a full race set-up as I wouldn't see it as a fair race and no doubt, someone with no engine mods would not want to race against me. I'd be intrigued to find out what sort of Quater Mile I'm running, but at the same time, I'd want to be put against a car similar to mine. Also, MC, you know you're car will eat all of the 1.6's on the day, so why not try going against the 2.0 16v's? I can understand it's difficult to put cars into classes other than in this way to make it seem fair.

I will come along to watch, but I won't put my car on the track.

Jim.

MC, your car will be beating pretty much everything in its class, mainly because you have almost as much power as the valvers, but with about 10th the weight!!! so basically I reckon, if it is possible, do the classes by horsepower or something. Just a sugestion.

btw, if I get my 16v engine in in time, I will come down!!

2.0 16v on its way soon!!!! :D

Jim, u miss the point. The whole idea of a 1/4 mile is to find out who`s car is quickest, not who can drive the quickest. It`d be a tad boring if u only raced people of the same std. The world over, cars are pitched against each other according to cc not modification level. For people like ourselves that modify motors its a challenge to build the fastest car. U must see that it is a personal challenge also, to see how quick u can go and you yourself can decide how well u have done against similar rivals. Because this is a rwyb day we wont be able to guarantee head to head races of equal cars, its the times we are interested in, and naturaly although in a different class I will be out to scalp as many bigger engine cars as possible. When u say I`ll eat up all of the 1600`s, you are forgetting Mr Dec!

When I raced at North Weald, they didnt even have cc classes, just 4, 6 and 8cylinder classes so I was absolutely pissed on by 12sec beetles, but I didnt care, coz I took part! You cant believe the buzz u get until u try it and I think your cars Jim and Breeny would do well. Its upto regular members like yourselves to set an example.

Now back to the subject.....

lmao, mc if u want me to race, convince me yourself, not get Ian to do your dirty work :P p.s. im gonna do a run or two now. 1251 - 1450 class please :)

Jim, life's not fair! the idea is to put some times down and see if u can get better, which you will.
Just because someone has a quicker car is no reason not to race, when me and ste go to york we are up against bretts tb valver and another 240bhp carbed one and phil lofthouses carbed one, we dont spit our dummys and not race, the whole idea is to have fun. Racing something faster is better cos u push yourself more for better times.
anything can happen on the day, the faster car could blow up on line, snap a shaft, catch fire, he could mess his start, or miss a gear change.
brett got beat at york by phil lofthouse, cos he missed a change so stop worrying about whether you winning or not.

my mate with the martini evo lancia cam with us, never did it before, had his wife nagging not to blow up car as new engine, and thoroughly enjoyed it and his wife was egging him for better times in end cos it is so much fun and adrenaline.

Rex of course you can come, competition entry will be decided, john, bhp ok if u want mine is 98 bhp so put me in that class.
.....there is no way of telling so impractical.

and i will race anything, preferably faster cos i know i will try that bit harder, but will race mc as it might be close, and i will have to try to make sure i dont get beat.

Yeah I'll be well up for a bit of that!! Glad to hear there's gonna be another rapid 1.6 going too... should be interesting!

Ian's right, it's not the winning that matters - it's the taking part. You can't beat the buzz you get while sitting on the start line hoping you don't light the tyres up or miss a gear - mad!!!

Dec :)

Yep im up for it if it is rebuilt by then. Put me up in the 1251-1450 class. and i agree with ian its the taking oart that matters. id quite willingly race ian or ste in my trusty 1.3. like he said anything can happen. ive raced one before and cos he missed a gear i beat him !! + it wos wet but still. the onloy thing im worried about is how i get it hiome if i blow it up????? cos i wouldnt be surprised if i did. ill have to get a RAC membership a bit quick !!!

yep lol
well nearly...
i've caught fire on startline at york, snapped driveshaft at santa pod, brett was missing gearchanges regularly at york(so now has quaiffe gearlever and linkage)
and i've never really messed up start but come close, let off the wheelspin in 1st when shouldnt, or got too much spin, just takes practice.

and i'll have a few runs at dec, see if i can keep up!

A slight change of heart here. We are not going to have it the event organised that strictly now, so any member without a Nova such as Davo and Rexy can join in, and we will let non members join in as long as they do drive a Nova. Does that make sense? We will still rank the times in classes etc and will possibly have a token trophy or summit but we will treat the whole event as more of a fun meet than a serious comp. So drum up as much intrest as possible. Kev u can even race your ragtop!

Ste, there is toooo much to do on it still!!!! I have taken my old engine out, but the garage still hasn't done the repair work on the body and until that is done I can't put my new engine in!! plus, I have been working all the time and the car is at my dads warehouse, so I can only work on it at the weekends and sometimes in the evenings, but only if my dad comes up to the office to open the place up!! I wont have it finished by billing, but I should haave it done by the time of this quarter mile day.

I take it the interest level in this isnt very high then. There are 1.2`s to valvers, Turbos and Nova rally cars lined up.

Bit of a diff. time of year 4 me but the car will be there with some driver or another and I'm going to move heaven and earth to get at least 1 run in meself.

This ought to be one of the best site days so far. Nobody who has ever been down the strip will ever laff or take the piss out of anybody who has come along to have a go regardless of what they are driving. Its fun & its is an experience not to be missed -sitting on the line waiting to go in whatever you have brung is a real buzz, more so than you would think.
So come on peeps, you will def. learn good driving techniques and car setup ideas from it plus have a stonking day out.

If anyone has breakdown probs, they are welcome to use my workshop (inc car ramp) which is only a few miles away.

I come back from Kavos in the early hours of the 8th so if I am alive and well I will be there, last time I went i raced a sunny gtir down the strip and got a 16.7 in my GTE with just an induction kit so it will be interesting to see what difference an exhaust makes as well.

Just to whet your appetities, the rally car thats lined up to come is a 1.6 on twin 45's. It has 147hp at the flywheel and runs a high compression head, mahle pistons, stengthened balanced bottom end, 1.3 flywheel, quaife close ratio gears and a plate diff. Additionally it has lowered and altered engine and tie bar mounts along with fully adjustable coil overs struts and tarmac competition rubber clad compomotives.
It should fly off the start.... sub 15 secs???!!

Plus engine problems...dont fancy it being my valve guides and blow one of the valves up from thrasing it.

Will try and make the next one hopefully, as id love to do as ian said...see how it fares against others in my class espcially after ive just had it tuned up.

needs tuning again now cause im going to be havinga new head plus might even have a ne exhaust thx to tweeks doing a shite job on my exhaust :(
