i went to start my GSi for the first time after fitting a new gearbox, exhaust and giving it a basic service. when i turned the key i could just here a loud clicking sound as the engine was turning over. presume that's the starter?
i've got the battery on charge, just in case, but does anyone have any ideas other than a flat battery?
seriously, before you go and buy a new one. roll the car down the road with the ignition off and stick it in 1st and dump the clutch. this will turn the engine round a bit. it is quite common for the gear on the flywheel to be in a position that stops the starter engaging. then try the starter.
well the clicking is the solenoid which is part of the starter motor so I would say it isn't totally screwed...as mowgli said prob the pinion gear not catching on the ring gear on the flywheel therefore not turning the engine over
battery and what mowgli said.
ive had expereince of a fine started not working due to the battery voltage being gay
