At last I have got some pics of the carbon fibre work I have completed on my car. I'll get some more up as soon as I move the car again!

A few of you have asked about me making panels for you. The interest I get will determine the cost as I still have to buy the flat carbon sheets. I can also do it in other materials. (alu etc)

Hope this helps!

Al

can you do the mirror covers with holes for the adjusters to come through?

put a full price list up for what you think you would be able to do the parts at, then gauge by interest an actual price for the parts after leaving the thread for a while to get some response...

surprised ste's not been in slating that rear harness mounting point

should move it onto the rear cage bar - much safer there :P

thats the rear seat belt mounting any way its hardly going to break off or somin

ollster
28-06-04, 08:58 AM
no it wont break, but if you have a rear end shunt the car will squash up like a tin can and you will have a date with the dashboard . Really on a nova i wouldnt recomend having them mounted there for your own safety

A harness bar is the best, this cost me less than ?30 extra when i bought my cage

The car looks really good by the way, if you have a price list for all the carbon bits i am interested in some.

Its still safe enough for Eu regulations for seatbelt mounting points so its more than safe enough for normal road use.

For the rear end to collapse completely in a nova something behind you is gonna have to be going very fast!

But I do agree, on the chassis somewhere is a better idea.. or even better on the roll cage IF its welded in.

Hi guys

It's great you've all got back to me, I'd be glad to make as many as I can. It's only a hobby as Breeny knows but I'll do as many panels as I can in my free time - I cut and shaped all the panels, apart from the boot floor, in my car in a week but now I have the templates it should be much quicker I hope.

As for materials, the door cards, rear quarters, kick plates and boot floor are carbon fibre with a slight fibreglass backing to give it rigidness.

The boot panel, inside mirror covers and scuttle (battery cover) are made of pure carbon as they have to bend over greater angles and the scuttle needs to bend slightly to get it in. Would of made the door cards etc out of pure carbon but it would need to be at least 3mm thick and is very expensive.

I will ring up for prices of the material this week, (I'll have to buy some new blades as well - Carbon blunts them like no tomorrow!) and post approximate prices as soon as I can.

When all thats sorted I will discuss holes and fixings etc.

Working on another carbon piece this week but I'm not sure anyone is going to like it but I'll post a picture anyway! And the seat belts were put there as the strut isn't bolted to the bodywork, only the top of the suspension strut and would of been an MOT failiure and the wheels in the way of the other holes I'd of used.

Hope this clears a few things up, anything else let me know!

Hi Al,

I sent you a pm a while ago regarding a template for a scuttle panel cover, but you've not got back to me. Apologies if you've been busy. If it's possible could you send me a template? I'm not sure what im going to make mine out of, or when I'm going to do it, so a template would be handy to have for a later date.

Cheers

Jim

its not EU regs, OR crumpling the car.

its that the angle atwhich the harness goes back. it has to be approx 45degrees, not horizontal, as the force of an impact could cause the harness to snap.

AFAIK thats fine Benji, its how I'm gonna have mine mounted anyway.

Your all missing the point anyway cos if your gonna be arsey like that, in a hefty impact 4 point harness's are crap because you'll go under the lap belt anyway.. According to Rifle Range motorsport 8)

benji

and if you have a 5pt harness it will be messy :o

Hi guys

Just thought I'd post this to say I haven't forgotten about you all but after Wednesday night it will be a little while before I'm back to being able to get the carbon stuff made.

As soon as I can I'll let you all know as I want to be back and active as soon as I can!

Cheers for your patience
