ok basically i am gony be doin this in the very near future, as in as soon as i get an 8v ecu back from my mate and as soon as i find out about using the nova gsi gearbox(f13 aint it?)

so what i need to know is :-

1. does the box bolt straight onto the block with no mods anywhere? anything need taken off the casting of the box/block anywhere?

2. does the input shaft from the f13 fit the friction plate of the 2lt 8v clutch or do i need to put the 1.6 friction plate in?

3. i am assuming i keep the 2ltr flywheel, am i right on this?

thats it folks so post up yer info please. looking to do this very soon

cheers

Hi,

My big block engine went straight together with my 1.2 gearbox!

Only a bit of the casting to grind off so shaft would fit.

You will have to mate the two together on the floor check 1, 2 and 3.
(the friction plate will come with the 1.6 flywheel)

ok robb so you used the 1.6 friction plate with the f16 pressure plate, yeah?

where was the casting that you ground off? any pics?

I beleive so, it may have been the 1.2 stuff tho as that was what the shell was originally. (not sure if there is any difference between 1.6 and 1.2 flywheels) best to leave 2.0 one on and mate together to see, ensure the starter will engage on it!

There was also a bolt hole on engine that is near the rear mount and driveshaft hole (when mated together) that was snapped off mine when I got it., the bit I grinded is easily accessible with a grinder and only needs 2mm x 2mm x 2mm taking off the corner (you will see it easily when box and engine together). Also the grinder will fit up to it when in shell.

I will try and draw a rough pic and post below later.......

.....(a bit later)......You will have to excuse the drawing, but you will get the idea, this islooking at the motor from drivers side down past the back of the sump:

right i see now so it was the engine that you ground away to clear the shaft then? cool. thanks for the pic, it was easy to follow.

ill offer up the f13 with the 2.0 flywheel and clutch still on and see if it works. if not i'll replace the friction plate from the 1.6 onto the 2.0, but keep the 2.0 pressure plate(which means i can keep the 2.0 ltr flywheel - no hassle with starter), and see how that goes from there.

ill take some pics aswell.

Yeah it was a bit of a wonky half arsed drawing, it's just I have had 6 new computers to install over at work in about 4 hours. F****ng nightmare!

I'm glad after all this time I am actually making sense now! :? Yeah some pics would also be good.

Let me know how it goes, I'm watching this post so replies here I'll see.

Sounds interesting. Will make very cheap 2ltr 8v conversions :)

if u can do that wiv a 2.0 8v then u shud b able to do it wiv a 2.0 16v conversion too as the the blocks are the same i think?

Yeah, But you can pick 8v's up for ?30 - ?50..

yeah the 16v can be done this way but its not as reliable as using the f20 or f16 since the xe has more power and torque so the f13 might not last. im gony run mine with the f13 and see how it goes with fuel economy etc. i have the gte shafts here, all i need is cv joints if i want to change to the f16 at a later date. or maybe f28 for a bit of snazzy, lol. the 8v prob wouldnt have enough oomph to pull the car in 6th, lol

i thought the reason people dont do this with the xe is the fact that the fly wheel bolting arrangement is different 8 bolt instead of 6 ??

dunno mate. ive got a spare sr gearbox in the garage so im gony dig it out, split the 2.0ltr 8v and f16 and have a play about to see how things go with mating up, regarding flywheel, clutch etc

the SR gearbox should be F10

yeah it is but it will have the same input shaft as the f13(i think) so it will be the same conversion. i wanna get my engine conversion done insde a weekend so im not losing the car for work so i'd rather be prepared by knowing exaclty what i have to do that gettin my enign out and realising i need new bits to make it work
