Full exhaust system-?200ish
4-1 Manifold
Weber 32/34 carb-?90/Or Twin 40's ?200ish
Performance CAM from piper/kent-?150-Something like a Piper 285.
Vernier Pulley
Performace engine head, or get yours skimmed/gas flowed.

And an engine rebuild wouldn't be bad.And get any carb you fit rolling roaded and set up to get max. performance.
With the 32/34carb you should see about 80-90bhp, the twin 40's probably around 100-120bhp.

How much does it cost to get a it skimmed?

How much does it cost to get a it skimmed?

how much are you looking to spend ?

if you're on a budget...

Pierberg 2E carb (off an SR) - ?15
K&N air filter - ?50 new ?
full SR exhaust system - ?25-?35
1.4SR cam - ?15

err u might well find its the same as the sr engine anyway
remove the air filter and look on the carburettor - see if it says peirburg 2E on it - if so look at the exhaust manifold and see if it has 2 pipes running down the front and under the sump

if it has both of these its identical to the 1.3sr engine and im sure all 1.3 nova's had the same lump with the exception of very early ones which had a shite carb and exhaust

Best thing to do is buy another engine! once you have the engine is to strip it all down.
Once its all stripped down in three stages is to take a part at a time to someone that builds raceing engine for a living.
You can buy the engine parts as you can afford them.
Raceing cam
High compression head and valves gas flowed
Raceing crank and pistons
Or if you have the money go and get the engine done all at once and then have fun with the new power.

I would advise saving up and doing it all at once-leaving an engine standing for ages and buying bits for it and having work done every week/month is a bad idea and could cause you problems and waste money-If you're goin2 get another engine and work on it out of the car+swap them over, do it all in 2/3 weeks tops

Skimming the head is cheap (cost me ?40) but then you have to buy head bolts and gasket too, can't remember how much they cost tho' (+ fitting if you don't fancy it).
Skimming is the process where metal is shaved from the bottom of the head, this means the chambers where fuel / air are mixed b4 entering the engine is reduced on length, this increases compression ratio.

which doesn't gain you much bhp if done on its own.

A decent exhaust and cam will give you 10-12bhp.

I was working on my 1.2 engine, added 1300 skimmed, ported, polished head, kent cam, twin 40s, 4-1 manifold, modified gte exhaust system with middle pipe section replaced with 2.5 inch straight thru pipe and cherrybomb exit (which actually sounds well cause whole exhaust straight thru) and i'm putting in a 4.18 diff to make use of the extra power. So encase you think i've strayed off the topic, i'm making the point if you do this to a 1300 nova, the difference would be bigger, cause my 1.2 is now reasonably quicker than a 1300 near enough standard. Yeah going for a performance bottom end and pistions would be better again, but for the money it costs the 40s, 4-1, kent cam and head work is a brave difference in power and its not that expensive.

of course thats just my opinion

how much did u skim off the 1300head?

did you not have a 1200 to hand? they are slightly different (combustionchamber is smaller i think).

i'm not to sure of the exact thou skimmed but it was as much as safely possible, cause i want to make up as much compression as possible since the 1300 combustion chamber is larger so you lose some compression, so its more or less equals it self out. Plus the porting and polishing helps out and i think the valves might be slightly larger in the 1300 head.

Don't think theres much in the size of the combustion chamber as the 1.3 has a smaller bore to start with. The valves are definitely the same size though.

yeah. you would prolly have been a bit better off using a 1200 head. But it doesn't matter a great deal.

good luck.

i've had 2mm skimmed off me 1ltr head :o

if ur lookin to tune ur 1.3 engine and gettin the t40's ur best off looking 4 a 1.3s head the inlets are alot bigger than a 1.2 head as are all the valves. failing that get a 1.4sri head whitch again have bigger vavles than the standard 1.3. if u go for the latter of these to make sure the head comes from a multi point injection and not single point.

1.3s has exactly the same size inlets and valves as the 1.2.

Only the mpi nova engines have larger valves.
