well afetr owning the car seven days now i have almost done as much as i can before it takes its final journey as it is.

The amount of time i have spent on it is nowhere near what i wanted but it is now fully stripped with the worst of the loom trimmed/hidden away. still alot to do like remove all the glue inside and the door strips along the outside etc etc etc but this week will see that done easy.

A few pics of the loom just after i started

i was tempted to swap the bus steering before its time just to see what the grey one was like with the huge thing fitted    , but then couldnt be arsed as i have to drive it normally until we do the final shell swap and change every nut and bolt over anyway

They all look like that under the trim, I had a 1.4SR for parts which had no rear arches left (rust  ) and it was that clean after I stripped it.

But I'm sure that it is a mint shell otherwise you wouldn't be working so hard on it. You creating rally? custom dash?

Keep the work up and the pics flowing!

Thats the link to the other pics i took at the beginning. The front of car will be staying the same pretty much apart from a switch panel which will sit in front of the fuse box etc

update time again, with the fabulous help of cp and his welder. We managed to fully strip the car and weld from across the front panel right back to across the rear panel by 2pm sunday(drove car to cp's sat morn). That takes the total time spent since buying a standard 1.2 to where it is now to 4 days in total.

heres a few pics stu managed to get from the car sat afternoon before we started the inside and rear of the car

Will this weld on the bottom edge not get in the way of the tie bar mount whens its placed up to it and bolted?

Seeing as the cars on a strict diet - Might as well remove the sound deadening pads from the floor pan etc - started work on my project at weekend - remove the bitumen from the front and rear floor pan - Weighs in at 5 KG !!!!!

if it did it could be lightly ground back to suit without weakening the weld much.

looks like its gonna be a beauty when its finished. surprised no prat has said to put a jap kit on it :)

Cheers for the info.

One other question, with the right gear is welding neatly reasonably easy to pick up? Its a skill I've wanted for a while and now that DIY welders seem as cheap as chips I thought I'd take the plunge...

Any experience with gas-less welders, if so what are they like?

Cheers.

Also something i'm looking to get into. Concidering going back to crap money and doing an engineering apprentiship! Thats if i dont get a decent computer job!

MIG welding is fairly easy to pick up- don't get a gasless MIG tho there shite. Practice makes perfect

welding is an art

CP taught/showed me how to weld. and by christ is it hard work.

my welding is getting better, but its not pretty. that will come with time.

for cars the 0.6mm wire and low power welder is recomended.

ive got a sealey MIG150 (T i think) and its fairly good, up to the task.

just need to get a proper regulator so i can use argosheild :)

Barn

i can do a bit of welding...its not that hard to pick up...

it gets harder when you weld vertically but still

dunno if I would stitch-weld my bay though, as the guy I know that did the welding on my old SR is sh*t-hot...

can't be that hard to do though

epo
