well it depends how much money you want to spend and what you want to aim for. I have 2l 16v in mine now thanx to a saxo going that little bit faster than my 1400 down the 1/4mile
i know the feeling ive just got an XE for mine now cos i want it even quicker. lol. its a bug you cant get rid of.
you may find that your timing is out. get a tuner or someone in the know to adjust your timing. its a good start and a lot cheaper than a new motor
Sounds like a tuning problem, could be incorrect carb setup, or timing as said above.
Pug 106 1.0 putting out about 50bhp, 1.4SR at about 70bhp standard.
Deffo a problem. :?
Give the car a bloody good service with new dizzy cap, rotor arm, air filter, oil filter, oil, spark plugs, ht leads & cambelt (get the timing checked aswell) then maybe take it to a garage that can see if your carb is setup correctly.
