I got a mk 1.2 Carb

I think the Idleing jet is blocked and i've had to turn the idleing up alot to keep the car ticking over, it's resulted in pretty bad over fueling, can smell petrol all the time. I think the whole carb just needs stripping and cleaning

can't be arsed paying a garage to clean it, so how easy is it with the use of a haynes manual ? any perticular things to be careful of ?

Also, my exhuast is blowing quite alot and a liquidy black residue is coming out of it. I.e if u park infront of a car and rev it for a while the car's bumper behind will be smeared with this black crap. I presume this is all related to the over fueling problems !?

It is a pretty easy job, just don't lose any parts when you take them off.

when i was rebuilding my t40s, i put one carb in a cardbourd box and took it apart in that so i would not loose the parts. also i would say try keep the parts together eg choke items in a jar etc!! and i would also say if your not sure if a part/gasket does not look up to scratch then replace it.
