i just had a education in how fast my car isn't. been out for a drive tonight and the car felt great, had a few races with the local saxo brigade, beat a 206 cc away from the lights(wiped the smirk of the old blokes face) up until the cossie it was a good night.
he was at a set of lights which changed as i came up to them, i went past and he chased. then sat on my bumper up to 100. i had to slow for a island then got stuck behind another car. at the next island the road changed to 2 lanes, i took off and the cossie hovered behind me, once past the other car i moved to the left, the cosworth pulled along side me, waved, then booted it. the back end about hit the floor then he just dissapered down the road. this was my first experiance vs a cosie that's why i tried it on, just as a bit of a learning curve. which turned out to be quite steep :( i dont know if it was standard or not, but it was a tatty four door saphire. how quick are standard ones?

if anyone knows the area it was the road between east midlands airport and the m1, from the services at the top of thehill down to the hotel at j24

i raced a standard escort cosworth in my valver just over a year ago. He wasted me off the line but when i caught him and we both booted it on the move I was glued to his back bumper til abt 135 then he pulled away

Theyre deceptively quick. You just cant see how a tatty old sierra can be that rapid as standard (after 15 odd years). Went in one a while back that had been tuned and it scared the s hit outa me. When he booted it the rear end just drops and the car rockets foreward. 0-60 is 5 point something standard I believe (correct me if im wrong).

benji

did he know you were trying?

Bigruss had a Sierra cossie....

funny enough he was telling me the other week how he annihalated a tuned R5GTT before in it...

don't worry mate...if you thought you would have a sniff of a chance against a cossie you were being naive mate!

fuck 1/4s in a cossie they only come into there own from 60mph onwards

Stuart
09-06-04, 11:54 PM
seeinga s the 1.2 had 53bhp (if that) and the m12 has about a million bhp

even if i was trying and he was pushing the car by hand id still have been whooped lol

the omega is fast(ish) but only from 50+ standing starts are not its strong point

Specs of Sierra Cossie:-
Engine Type turbo dohc 16-valve I4
Powertrain Layout front engine/rwd
Displacement, cc 1993
Horsepower@rpm 204@6000
Torque lb-ft@rpm 205@4500
Curb Weight, lb 2756
0-60 mph, sec 6.1
0-100, sec 15.8
Top Speed, mph 151
That is for the 2wd version, apparently the 4wd is slower in a straight line cus of the extra weight of the driveshafts etc.

The escort cossie being quicker to 60, 5.7 secs, but slower top end. 140mph

^^^ yeah but what you have to bear in mind also is that most of them have some degree of tuning done to them...

and they get relativley big gains from small mods

2 DOOR SIERRA COSSIE STANDARD IS 5.9 SECS 0-60 ON THE 1990 G REG AS STANDARD. I DO LOVE VALVERS BUT I DONT THINK MANY WOULD HAVE A CHANCE AGAINST EVEN A STANDARD COSSIE. AND THERE IS NOT MANY LEFT STANDARD.

i had a race with an Escort COssie on the A14 near me, an kept right on his bumper to 100 an then im sure i would have been side by side as i had to back off a bit to stop myself goin in the bac of him, carried on to 125 then he had to turn off, gave a thumbs up as he went of... probly a standard one, an he woulda had me top end but still kept up well, no major mods to my Valver (171bhp)

Both a 3 door Sierra/Saph Cossie and a Escos with blow away any standard Nova.

A standard 2.0 16v nova will keep up with a standard Escos or 4x4 Saph (There book 1/4 is only 14.9)

You have to bare in mind its a piece of piss to tune a cosworth lump, people have been doing it for decades.. and they will continue to do so.. Its probably one of the cheapest turbo lumps to do these days.

I kept up with a supposidly 400hp cossie up the Pod (6 tenths behind him) at the finish (@ 110ish mph) but i reckon he would have pulled away a lot more if we had carried on 110+..

I hadda race with a Ducatti 996 the other week, was all over his ass for the 1st 1/4mile, even went 2 undertake him, pulled up beside him @ bout 110mph, he waved.., finished doin his wheely and took off pmsl...

Dunno what this has 2do with cossies, but fcuk it lol

my mates running his new engine in on his cossie and at the moment with the boost set at 5lb its making a good 250hp. it should see 350 when the boost is back ipto 15lb, its bleeding quick as it is

the V6 in the sierra xr4x4's are pretty quick, obviously not as quick as a cossie.

a tad quicker than a 2.016v calibra, but not as quick as a Calibra V6.

0-60 8.3 secs,
150bhp approx.
210lbft torque i think

benji should have no trouble pulling on a st170, i pulled a good 5-6 car lengths on one up to 110ish

i beat a 270 horse 2wd saphie in my LET nova. lmao. the guy was a nut job aswell and wanted more. we stopped to talk and he said "right i need petrol but hang about and we can have another blast". beat him again. overtook him easily about a ton or so. my car was running standard boost levels and a shitty rs turbo intercooler stuck next to the rad.

after we got it setup good with a cossie frount mounted cooler and 1 bar of boost, had a race with a 300 horse scooby and it couldnt get past me lol

If you are a shit driver in a skyline, you'll get mashed by a valver. Paxo boys in their vts's get beat by gte's sometimes. some cossies get beat by nova valvers. sometimes a good driver in a slower car will beat your arse off you. i've got an xr3i cab at the moment and i can beat ALL the saxo's in Oldham who I have come up against up to yet, cos I can drive better than the spotty kids who buy saxo's........... but my cab weighs 2 tons and only has 108bhp!!!!!!!!!! All the saxo boys put on an air filter and get 10000000000000000bhp..............

rodgerq
19-06-04, 01:09 PM
na i wouldnt say it was down to driver skill in this one, my nova was simply fasterthan the cossie and on a par with the scooby. i know the boys that drive each of the cars and both are hard nut track addicts, both been driving high power cars since i met them.

There's no denying that LET novas are quick, look at the times they get up the pod, but when it comes to the corners etc, scoobies, 4wd cosworths, evo's 8) would leave them for dead.

rodgerq
19-06-04, 01:21 PM
IMO only very few LET novas times up the quarter mile reflect how quick they ACTUALLY are on the road. when i was racing that cossie, granted, on the corners it was great fun watching the guy get the arse out and he was pullin away from me but not by much(the bilstein suspension seems to do the trick) and on the straights my nova was that much quicker that it more than made up for the diference in the corners.

The on you raced was a 2wd one, not 4wd, you would not keep up with a 4wd through the corners. From driving breeny's nova, I know how early you need to start braking for corners.

rodgerq
19-06-04, 01:47 PM
agreed, not many 2wd cars will keep with 4wd motors in the corners.
