View Full Version : well looks like the f**king engine needs to come out
well after pv i wanted to do some work to my car--- wish i hadnt!
had this little pencil like torch so being bored i shone it in all my exhaust ports then in no3 cylinder i noticed abit of damp oily residue every where!, so it looks like one or two of the valve guides are worn or at the least i have a dodgy stem oil seal! (unlikely as there gm)
now that this has happened im not amused and starting to think some one is doing this on purpose to make me give up! , im at the stage now where its getting silly!, i saw so many let novas yesterday at pod so why the fuck does myne seem like its never ending, its not rocket science to build one

dont get to down about it mate, it will all be worth it when its done. Im currently stripping all the seam sealer of mine which is the most boring task on earth ready for stitching and plating. I often loose the plot with mine and its only been of the road for 10 months or so.
With the engine i would double check the stem seal, as i had one on my last engine build from vauxhall that had a small split in it. You could only see it when it was sat down in place over the top of the guide.
Hope you get it sorted mate dont give up now
Sorry to hear this.
Before taking the drastic measure of removing the lump get the compression and leakdown testers out!
Far better to do this whilst the engine is in one piece.
Cheers.
Surely it is easier to take the head off and leave the block and gearbox still in the car, it comes off easy enough if there is no turbo on it. This is the way I did it when my cambelt slipped.
It'll be worth all the aggro when its done
:D
ben your right but i cant realy do a good compresion test as ive no turbo etc so the car cannot be started! lee gunna do as youve said, whilst its out im going to fit it up with nice vernier pulley's and a fat 5 layer steel head gasket :D to be on the safe side ill get 2new guides pressed in and maybe 2new valves 8)
good job i have a hospital apointment 2moz and all day off work  expect pics and swearing
Leakdown testing kits are pretty cheap if you've got access to a compressor. The compression test can be done on the engine just spinning over on the starter... Oil pissing out of the turbo oil feed might be a problem though (assuming its not connected)
The leakdown test will definitely tell you where the problem lies and might save you money in the long run.
Cheers,
Ben
