As some of you may know, I have done my wiring loom.

I come to start my car today and it wouldn't.

I jump started it off another car,( battery was dead) been sitting for 3 weeks.

I put in some fresh petrol this morning from a jerry can.

It turns over, it just won't fire up.

I dont know if there is any petrol getting through.

Any help appreciated.

Is it an injection engine? If so it could be 1 of a few things: check your pump relay, give it a coule of taps usualy works if not check the wiring to the pump, could also have something to do with the ignition live? if its not sendind a signal to the ecu it wont switch on the pump.

If its carbbed check the mechanical pump might have seized.

take off the fuel pipe off from the end of the mechanical pump that leads to the carb and get some one to turn it over and see if any pertol comes out. If not the pump could be f@cked mate.

ok, I will just do that now and see what happens.

The fuel pump is working fine.

The carb is fine.

Would it be caused by a build up of dirt etc in the carb?

My battery is completely dead, I.E. not even enough power for headlights etc.

If your battery is dead isn't that why it won't run, or are you still jump starting.
Check all HT leads(moisture etc) and check for a spark at the plugs(take the plug out and hold it next to the engine(with the lead still connected). Then try to fire it and see if you get a bright spark.

I tried that, but I haven't got a spark plug socket.

I decided to go and get new distributor cap, and rotor arm etc.

But I was in such a hurry (PV tomorrow) I jus ripped all my HT leads out, so now I dont even know where they go. :(

Things just keep getting better
