I have seen a 4 branch manifold that i want for my mk1 1.2, but dont know if it will fit or not. It is designed for a GSI/GTE, but says it will also fit a 1.2? Is this correct or would i have to buy a GTE exhaust system as well or keep my standard mid section?

The manifold will fit on the engine but weather it will mate to the system i dont know.
To be honest,if you have a standard system youd get better gains going for a full system and downpipe like a magnex etc,and getting a second hand GTE cast manifold from the scrap yard.
The 1.2 has a single down pipe whereas the GTE has a twin down pipe.
So your shopping list is:-
a- GTE cast manifold from scrapyard.
b- full sports system for a GTE inc downpipe.
You would only see a benefit of a 4 branch manifold on a well tuned engine, you just wouldnt notice on a 1.2,but you would notice the difference with what ive listed above.
What you really wanna do is put a bigger engine in,you can pick up a decent 1.6i 8v GTE engine, lomm, ecu and gearbox for less than ?100 and that would give you 100bhp in standard trim.
In my opinion tuning a 1.2 is a waste of money as no matter what you do to it its never gonna be fast, just put a bigger engine in.
If insurance is an issue, put a 1.4 SRi engine in there, they are little rippers for 1.4's
You know you want a c20xe 2ltr 16v though,best thing i ever did!

cheers for the reply mate, i would love an xe engine but unfortunately i am only 17. Im only gonna mildly tune my 1.2 and then probably get an sr or gsi/gte in a couple of years. My engine already has a weber 32/34 dtml carb, and K&N filter. I think i'll do what you said and get the full system exhaust so that i have a noticeable gain in power.

And it will sound nicer!
I have a full magnex stainless steel zaust,i had it on my old nova gte and it sounded deep and sporty but not silly load.
It sounds even nicer now its on the nova ive just rebuilt from bare shell, with an XE in it.
Ive had a few different zausts over the years and i can say that the magnex is the best ive had, perfect fit, quality materials, the welding is a work of art,and they sound spot on.
The worst ive had was a powerflow, what a pile of shite, and sounded pants too!
If you get a full GTE system and get the GTE's cast manifold aswell you could remove it and put it on a gte if you get one in the future as stainless zausts dont corrode(good ones anyway)and last ages, magnex come with lifetime warranty.
I think the full gte magnex system is about ?270 depending where you go and they are dead easy to put on as they fit perfectly unlike most other systems ive had in the past.
Magnex all the way for me!!
Hey I recently got a magnex full system and it came in three part, it was like the following :-
1st part = looks like a standard 1.4 downpipe
2nd part = front & middle silensers
3rd part = very long back box
is this right ur did i get bump't?
