E16SE egr fault code

every now and then i get the fault light coming on on my gsi. looked it up and it says its the egr valve. where is it and what can i do to fix it?
seems to be causing performance problems aswell.

if ur vacume pipe is leaking air in, that would cause idleing probs, but most probs is a blockage of crud.. these are useless things anyway, if i was u i would plug the vacume pipe rendering it useless. here it is>>>

cool cheers for that. i have seen that on the engine but there aint even an electrical connection goin to it so how does the ecu know theres someting up with it?

does it affect performance? or am i just too used to the LET :p

if im right the tube goes down to some valve under the manifold, of which there are wires, just pull the tube off and plug it with a small screw. u can take it off via 2 13mm bolts and clean the valve later if u can be bothered, but i would just leave it blocked.
as the egr valve recirculates unburnt gases on 1 of the cylinders, and if u were to see that combustion cahmber it will be full of carbon build up especially if u have an oil buring problem, i,e rings or valve seal..
i think most ppl rebuilding engines leave em blocked up.

ok mate cheers. ill disable it the noe and rip it off at one point to have agander. might make up a blaning plate for it if its of no use.
