i dont kno what back box to go for, ive found a few but im not sure. 1, when fitted do they stick out under the left rear wheel, coz of the angle of the original system and 2, do these give a bassier tone to the car, and 3, how easy are they to fit, or shud i take it to kuickfit or sumwhere lyk dat to get it done?

The mk1 backboxes stick out at a angle, to fit the cut out in the bumper, whereas the mk2 ones come out at a straighter angle. Obviously a stainless steel one will be better cos it wont rust. Fitting is fairly straight forward, but if your old one has been on for a long time it will be siezed to the centre section! Just get the car securely up on axle stands and cover the join in shedloads of WD40, leave for a bit and try to get the backbox off. It can be a c*nt to get off but it will eventually- if you have a butane torch you can just heat the join up gently- might help to free it.

Peco are pretty crap because of there design:-

They have a big pipe with a normal section between that and the box.

Rage make decent exhausts, but they are all universal fit and so you will need to get other pieces to fit it to your car. Look here:-

Peco points out on an angle, and the standard tailpipe designs look pretty naff in my opinion. They make the nicest sound though, every other 1 I've heard sounds like tinned fart. (especially Magnex). Sportex looks pretty good and comes out straight even on a mk1. Doesn't sound too bad, not enough bite for my liking.

My rally car uses a modified Peco BB2, and my ates uses a Sportex. (used to have a Peco BB4 untill we put into a hedge backwards completely destroying the backbox.)

My peco bb2 is (almost) dead straight.... but the tailpipe comes directly out of the silencer (there's no crappy little pipe then a nice polilshed trim to it, as in the pic up there ^)

Yeah i have seen two types, one as in the picture with the little pipe joining the tail pipe and the box, but the other with the pipe straight out of the box.

Peco have brought out a range of direct fit jap-style ones which look smart
