long story but i need to replace my passenger side brake caliper.

i'll be off to the scrap yards tommorow so can i pick up any nova caliper or are the GSI/GTE different in any way. i know they used vented discs so does that mean they had bigger calipers?

oh, and before anyone says it astra stuff wont go behind my 14 inch wheels lol

yep, but you can use nova sri or gte and gsi calipers.
they are wider for the venting. std brakes use solid disks.

if your stuck look at corsas and astra mk3 too

they have similar calipers

take a measuring tape

some mid-range astras have 250x20mm disks which should fit under your wheels (i think these were also fitted to corsa gsi) so u might wanna look at those too

for ?40 you may aswell get a recon caliper if your not planning on upgrading

the gsi had the small ate capliper ,the gte had the ac delco crap

the gte brake caliper is IIRC the same as the standard 1.2 1.3 caliper with a spacer to allow for the extra disc thickness

depending on the scrappy you could get the calipers off any 2.0L Cavalier and a set of new discs and pads from Partco. Cheap and affective.

well i have tsw 14inch wheels so ive allways just assumed that the brakes wouldnt fit under them. :?:

anyway, got a new caliper sorted. told the guy i was after a gsi caliper and he gave me a 'standard' caliper (dont know from what model). all i needed to do was keep the slightly wider carrier bit from my gsi ones and bolt it on to the new one. problem solved, so as far as i'm aware the calipers are all the same apart from the gsi's have a slightly wider carrier bit to clear the vented discs (about an extra 10mm)

pistons might be different on the gte ones too

and astra gte's had 14" alloys ;) so as long as they are 5.5" wide u should be fine

on vaux wheels maybe. but in general, width is only vaguely related to the size of the dish for the brakes to fit under. it depends entirely on the wheel make and model. some 13" motorsport derived wheels will accept big calipers on many cars, some 14" posing items won't. only way he'll really know if his TSW wheels will clear them is to try.
