View Full Version : Crashed it. - UPDATE

crashed my nova this morning, it a hedge.... backwards.

was going down a country lane with a 90' bend at the bottom and high hedges on both sides. tried to slow to take the bend but just slid. no amount of pedal work would slow me down, i managed to loose some speed by sticking it in second. i don't know how i got round the bend, but i managed it. only to fight with it for 100 yards before clipping a verge and going backwards in to a hedge.

the thing is. i wasn't even going too fast. i thought i was doing about 60 but my mate who i was following said he wasn't going as fast as that.

i think the car can be sorted, but i will need a look at it first. it has a big dent in the pasenger wing and all the front valance is bent under. there are no more dents but the whole of the passenger sindand roof is covered in scratches from the bush. underneath looked ok, the front tie bar (??the bar and bush behind front valance) bracket is bent and the steering wheel is not level now. when going in a line it is at a 45 degree angle to whatit should be. i think the carbs also swallowed half a forest, as it drove like crap for a few miles before settling down again.

i should still be at pv and running in it if the damage to the steering is not too much, but i don't think you will want me on the stand now???

iwill get some pic later.

oops!

when i hit a tyre in the middle of a road it badly bent my lower valance well out of shape which pushed my tie bar backwards which then bent my bottom arm an finished off my nova!

might just have bent a bottom arm have a look an find out

new slam pannel isnt too hard to fit, if youve got the tools ie welder and time.

Sounds like just a bit of bad luck mate, :(
At least the damage doesn't sound as bad as it could have been.

i've had a proper look now and it is not good.

the inner wings are both creased, the front valance is none existen now. the tie bar bracket has moved up by about 2 inches, the tie bar has hit the gear box, the fron chasis leg is bent........ and so on.

the damage was caused by a raise mound of mud, my wheels went either side of it.

i am uploading pic's as we speak.

so the options are:

get the shell jigged. - i want it to be spot on is this possible??

get a new nova and swap over my bit's - i will not find a shell as good as mine was for the price i want to pay.

break it and save for a scooby.

i also have a vid of the road i came down. it is about 150yards from the bend to where i landed, and there is tyre marks on both sides of the road where i was fighting for control

Edit: added pics, they are big pic's so i have just put the links.

Holy Sh!t

Glad you ok mate and from what youve wrote and the pics, it is looking in a bad way.

I wouldnt really know what to do to be honest if i was in your position, get the admag and see if theres any reasonable novas going at the price your willing to pay. If you need a hand with anything lemmie know.

The only difference between yours and a early SR one is the air dam bit that goes under the bumper - however you don't have to fit it, or if you meant a late SR bumper then you'll need the grille aswell as they are 2 piece.
IMO the early SR one with the air dam would look the best on your early MK1.

i want one the same as the pic, so you can see the bodywork below the bumper. i have thought about putting the sr/gte bumper on it a few time's but i like it as it is (was)

car's back, it was painted (with can's) last night, it look's ok but need's a propper re-spray (soon  ) it will do the job for now though. all i need now is a clear passenger side MK1 indicator and a bumper
