The gsi engine went on thursday night, running on 3 cylinders, at first thought it was a spark plug, but after changin them still no fix.

So decided to rebuild engine. Took it out on sun head off today and discovered that a piece of 1 of the valves had broken off damaging the piston to.

Have stripped the engine down to the block and head, and will be takin to the machinists tomorrow.

Any1 know how much it should cost to get rebore, new pistons, re-grind crank, skim head etc?

Also any1 know how much 3 new mounts and a clutch will cost?

Will put some pics up tomorrow.

Cheers, Nick

you'd be cheaper gettin another engine matey. theres always gsi engine goin cheap. itll be a good few hundred quid at least for the machining work and parts like gaskets n stuff. then you have your oversize pistons
to get, new big end shells etc etc. it will mount up to a lot

not really a solution to the problem is it? its not going to be new this 'another engine'..

go for it mate; rebuild. cover all bases and it shouldn't happen again for another 10 years. :D will cost up to ?500ish ide say to recon bottom end. up to ?400ish to recon and modify 'head. problems ain't gonna necessarily go away buying another used lump. thats the way of the world mate.

yeah in ten years time you'll be runnng around in a tea bag though. whats the chances of havin it for that long.

i can see your point though for sure, its good piece of mind knowing you have a new recon engine under the bonnet. i cannot comment on how gen'ed up the guy is on engine rebuilding but theres a lot to it. a guy on mig just now was checking a block destined for a 400+bhp that he had bought, supposed to be newly bored out etc etc, and when he checked the ring gaps one bore was out by a mile so you have t have the knowledge to be able to accuraltey measure these things and not just put it down to chance
