Can any body send me a picture of the solenoid valve from the escort td which is being used to control the dump valve on a td nova also which pipes go where to the solenoid valve and do i have to use a twin piston dump valve i've tried a single piton dump valve and a solenoid valve(not sure if it's the right one) the dump valve didn't dump it just opened and closed without the required sound any help much appreciated cheers

cya all around some time

the whole principal of a deisel engine makes it impossible for a dump valve to work as normal like on a petrol engine. let me explain

first off petrol engine :- when boost builds on a petrol engine, and you back off the gas, the throttle plate closes causing the pressurised air in the inlet to have nowhere to go. this causes it to "bounce" off the closed throttle plate and head backwards causing the turbo to stall and in severe caes, eg high boost exaplmes, the reversion can even cause the compressor blades to shatter. this is where a dump valve comes in. it "dumps" the extra compressed air, either back through the intake or to atmosphere(depending on DV type). this stops the air reversion and prolong the life of the turbo unit.

now for how a deisel works. for a start it has no throttle plate. the cable is connected straight to the deisel pump whcih goes straight to the injectors, and the air is pressurised by the turbo in a normal way and they mix etc etc. but when you back off the throttle the boost just "goes" away for want of a better description as there is no restriction holding it in the intake.

this is why a dv dont work on a deisel engine. you can get kits to make one work, ive seen them on ebay and mayeb its the kinda thing you are talking about. if so i applologise for the spiel. :D

hi,

as i said if there is a kit available to enable a dv to run on a deisel engine then take no notice to what i have said as it is irrelevant to these kits and relevant only to trying to fit a normal dv to a deisel in the normal fasion.

but dont slant the info as "shit" as i can assure you it isnt wrong. if you disagree with what i have written then please feel free to post up your theorys and make relevant points to prove what i have said worng, but dont just post up that the info is "shit" without having a valid arguement to back yourself up

the floor is yours.....

I see what you are saying, the Naturally aspirated side of the engine would dissipate the compressed air. However, could this be an issue of the level of boost given. I mean throttle body or not, there is a point in the engine where anything oncoming into the head has to stop, be combusted and then expelled as we all know. If you were running silly psi I can see this working by compressed air getting stuck if only for a second, very quickly and very punchy! Either way I would love to find out how you would get a DV chirping on a deisel, I have only ever seen a 306 TD with a kit that worked. Can the details of how to make it work be shared here?

can i join in please - on the diesel the boost stays in the system, thats why the boost doesn't completely drop off at gearchanges, a dump valve will give the head and head gasket an easier time of things if running high boost like myself, the solenoid is a little black cylindrical thing with a outlet on the top and 2 inlets on the bottom it is situated in the passenger side front wing on a escort TD and in the scuttle by the wiper motor on a mondeo TD.

nice to see ya passing on the good word rich

lol me and andy will put him rite!!
as i said i am making a site for diesels and this is one of the main features others include fitting a boost guage, digidash, how and where to turn up the boost, playing around with mixtures and fitting an induction kit to the tractor engine lol,, im now making an add on which is how to make a str8 threw pipe , which there will be two types on which is with cat and one which is without ( warning without a cat u will need to adjust ur mixtures slightly

feel free to mail me for early info if u need it b4 the sight is up and running, and if im not answering then just ask andy aka (ydg27)

as i have said in my previous posts, with regards to fitting a dv to a td engine in the normal fashion it simply wont work(ie cutting the boost hose, fitting the DV and giving it a vac/boost feed). the mechanics of the engine defy it.

as said also you need a kit to do it and if re'read my first post you will see that i said if the question in hand was relating to a kit for the TD then ignore my post as it is only relevant to trying to fit a DV like you would to a TC petrol engine. the info i have given, for what i was talking about, is spot on though

all u need to fit a dv is to cut the boost pipe and put a mechanical on of tap on the vacum line as it is pumped ie constant unlike normal engines u dont need a kit or stuff just a brake soleniod off a td escort ( a little solenoid that connects to the escorts vacum line near the front passenger light

ok then thats fair enough. if you had just explained that instead of slating my post it would have been a lot easier.

i had a TD at one point, now it being prepped for a LET. a proper turbo engine :D lol
