Hi,
I have a 1.4 SRi and its recently started making a funny whistling sound when i accelerate, its not noticable when the engine is ticking over or when i take my foot of the accelerator. It only does it when i put my foot down.
Any one got any ideas what this is and how i can cure it.
Cheers Guys
Mike

But it does it when i'm going slowly, not just whilst going fast.
It never used to do it, its something that has only just started.

Is it blowing? My gasket went on my downpipe and it sounded pants. Give your engine a rev while listening by the front of the car.

Yeah its definatly a blowing sound, it sounds totally crap at the moment. Is the Gasket fairly easy to change.
It does sound exactly like there is a hole somewhere and air is leaking out.
Would it be exspensive to get it donein a Garage, is it going to damage the car if i keep driving it.
Cheers

Took the car to Hi-Q, they did a free check on the Exhaust system and said it was fine. No leaks, no deposits roundthe joins etc.
So its bak to the drawing board, Any more ideas ? ? ?

u haven't got an air leak round the carb or airbox/filter housing have u?
u haven't had ur box/filter housing drilled have u?
or the only other thing is u haven't got one of those turbo wistler thing of ebay on ur nova have u???
Any belts rubbing on parts they shouldn't be?
When the engine is not running (!!) have a check around the alternator belt area to see it it's been rubbing on any brackets or pipes - then try and have a look at the cam belt for the same things.
loose 'alternator belt' ?
that sounds well w*nk
