Last night I noticed a nasty scraping noise from front left brake.

Dropped the wheel of and as I suspected it was a worn out brake pad.

So I dropped of the calliper, then thought hang on a minute, I have a set of Astra 2.0 GSI callipers and disc in the garage (from my girlfrieds car) why don't I see if they fit.

So one hour 20 later I have big disks, 16v callipers and EBC Green stuff pads.

My question is: Is there anything else I need to do?

They seem to work fine but just want to be sure.

On 15s.

Pretty sure that if I was on 14s the callipers would hit the inside of the wheel.

There is only about 9mm clearance

hmm some "precision" engineering required from me then ;) lol

14's will fit if they are 5.5" or wider

the original astra gte alloys were 5.5x14

apparently there's some adjustment to make on the brake pedal itself. Decreases travel on the pedal so feels better.

thats onlt for the 6v calipers you need to do that due to their size

Well I have driven round on them for two days now and they feel better than the standard nova ones.

Will leave it as is for the moment.

As to fitting them when you are on 14s I would have though this had more to do with the desigh of the wheels i.e. the amount of room on the inside of the alloy.

I had the 2.0 16v brakes on my old car and they will fit under the 5/7?? spoke GM vaux alloys, can't remember what they were from but had about 9mm of space left between inside and alloy!!

Looks best when they hug under the alloy (or steel)

Well as long as your engineering is better than your spelling you should be ok

Yer i'm running 2.0 16v Astra GSi brakes on my nova, makes a hell of a diference

I'venticed a bit of a crappy brake pedal, seems to not doo much for the first inch or so of travel, mite have a look into that !

So how do you adjust the brake pedal???

At work so will have a look at the hanes when I get home but would be good to hear from someone that has actually done it.
