View Full Version : AVO coilovers
ive seen a few cars on here with avo coilovers. ive just spoken to a local shop who deal in them and have been told that they will cost 580 quid for the full coilover kit. that includes rears too.
what i want to know is what people recon about them. and do the rears fit without any mods. ( i have trengthened the turrets and have a strut brace )
also how low do they go. pics would be cool
They are the best lowering setup you can get, because you can set the height of them to however low you feel like. :D

if you run them on the lowest setting don't expect them to last

ive not bought from them....yet but i will be soon to see if i can give another company recomendation

the main problem with coil overs is that people dont set them up!!
You have the opportunity to set the corner weights here, do it..

im not lookin to make the thing so low that it scrapes on the sills but low would be nice. ive been told that they are the dogs for track days. not that bad priced tho either. im running astra gte wheels with 185/60/14 tyres. will i have problems with the rears. :?:

if the kit comes with rear coilovers aswell then you will probably have to turret the rear inners to clear the unit. there was a kit around that was meant to fit novas without mods to the rear but i dunno if it was this one or not

ive been told that the AVO kit is the one that fits streaght on without any mods to the inner arch. ie tall turreting.
i think ill deffo be gettin these now. gunna pop down on pay day and order them.
I got em and my opinion is that they are OK for a budget job. I have seen a few examples of them and some of the early engineering and design wasnt upto much. Quite a few peeps had problems. I was at their factory the other day and the new stuff coming out is much better IMO. The MD does at least do comp stuff - he runs a rally cossie.
As rgards fitting them to Novas there are a number of ways to do it which will work satisfactorily. If you are after fully tuneable setup you really shud consider eccentric top mounts to go with them but check that its all compatible 1st! They can do you different spring heights and ratings - best speak to them about that.
They do fit OK on the rear but its VERY tight and wheel size etc will have a bearing on how much sorting out you may need to do. They actually foul the inner arches but only when the rear axle hangs down during fitting. I actually cut and recessed my inner arch but i think i needn't have bothered. The other main point with the rears is that the coilover spring presses up on the wheel arch where the strut head goes thru. There is no re-inforcing there so if you intend to carry passengers you will need to keep an eye on it or get it strenghtened somehow - if you have it stripped out there doesnt appear to be a problem.
A problem on the front i have is that if wound down to their lower settings the springs and the carriers can foul certain wheels - its very tight. Wheel spacers can help avoid this and again wheel/tyre choice can play a big part.
As regards performance - on rough roads you'll find them harsh and unforgiving and if you have highish spring ratings you may even be slower down lanes cos it will upset the cars handling. On smooth going they do what you would expect. I find they adjust ok and work fine on tracks. As Steven says for track use you can alter the corner weights by changing spring platform heights relative to each other to help balance the car for left and right handed bends. If you wanted a more sophisticated set up you would need summink different as on these you cant adjust the bump settings seperate to rebound ones - its just 1 adjuster for both. Lot more dosh tho and only worth it for track use really
thanks for writing all that cp. now i know what to expect from them. they are going on order on friday so will have them for next week. will have them on for june the 12th as its another open day at castle coombe ive heard.
