hi
the n/s/f wheel is not moving round at all it just drags it along with the car, i know that it's nothing to do with the actual wheel itself and thought it could be the wheel bearing?(will it be that)if so how much is one and is it hard to change.
The car doesnt start at the mo and i wunt of thought it wud be any good for the engine moving the car but the wheel not turnin, its a j reg 1.4 luxe.
Thanks
Andy :D

i dont know to be honest but if that was the case wouldnt the other wheel not move aswell?

No, one caliper could just have stuck on one side, the other could be fine. Take the wheel off and check the caliper.

how do you go about checking it?
i have took the wheel off and tryed to move it and i looked at the caliper and it looked awfully close but for all i know it should be like that.
the car was stood for about 2 months when it stopped.
could have rusted a bit, take the caliper off and check

it does move with about 7 of us pushing it!
it makes a really loud squeaky noise but quite deep.
it wunt do the engine no good wud it tryin to move it with the engine runnin?(even though it dunt start yet)
Just get someone to press the brake and you watch if the caliper piston moves the pads in onto the disc, and then out again.
If is has been stood for two months then it has probably rusted.

What do you mean, it is fine to move the caliper without the engine running. Do you mean that.

your bearing could have collapsed if it has then u r looking ?15
but then again it could be ur calliper once u have took it off take one of the pads out and wind the piston in if it is stuck then try and free it with WD40

when i was a lad :D i bought a nova off my mate for ?20. i had this problem with it and the caliper had just rusted on as it had been standing for a while. so it could be this, but like ada said it could be the wheel bearing.
jack ur car up and rock the wheel, if it rocks then it cud be ur wheel bearin causin the prob

get some 16valve brakes on there!
If you are gonna use wd40 try not to get it onto the discs or pads, it is highly flammable, and of course brakes gets seriously hot :!:

the wheel doesnt rock when i try to move it, if it was rusted, when the wheel moved wouldnt it take the rust off and free it?
is it hard to fit a wheel bearing?
Nah the wheel won't be rusted and i don't think its the wheel bearing, because its unliely that the bearing has gone when its been standing, its the caliper that rusts on, so it permanently presses the brake pads onto the brake disc. Preventing the wheel from moving freely.

so shall i take the caliper off and get the rust off?
should it be ok after that?
cheers
It will be fine to move with the caliper sticking, a few months ago I had my new shell towed for about 20 miles with sticking calipers. Got a bit warm but just go easy and check them every now and then.
I removed mine, replaced the actual caliper, used old carrier (as it was a GSi one, a bit wider for vented discs) and used new sliders with lots of grease in.
Easy way to do it.....
Hammer out the roll pins, undo the 2 19mm bolts on back, take carrier and pads out, NOW DON'T PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL OR THE PISTONS MAY FALL OUT!!, put whell on and see if it rolls fairly freely, also check that the caliper moves horizontally about 1-2cm on sliders.
If it is the calipers or sliders they will need cleaning right up, and reassembling with grease and rubber bits intact. Calipers are bolted with 10mm allen throught the sliders under the two little cap things on back.
TIP for putting sliders on.....have cap off and push through from non rubber side, then just flip the rubber seal into the groove and bolt on.
Good luck!
you will find that the 2 bolts holding the carrier on are 10mm allen bolts

thanks m8 ill have a go at then.
ill let you know how it goes
cheers evry1
Isn't the carrier the bit that holds the pads?
It's just I did mine about 2 days ago with a 19mm spanner and an 18mm spanner on the end and it still took some swearing to ease it loose.
