Can anyone help me out here. My nova seems to be getting really hot for no reason to the point where u cant touch underneath the bonnet at the front on the metal part where the radiator is (where the plate with engine number and chasis number thing is). Lastnite i let it idle till it got hot. The fan didnt cut in and then when i took the water cap off it boiled over with rust coloured water that stained the road
Any ideas or is it fine??

Mine was the same, test the rad and make sure that comes on.

If it does than its probably the rad switch, buy a new 1 and at the same time flush yur cooling system. (Haynes manaul!!)

That should work

exactly what i did i jus took off the clip on the drivers side of the rad and placed a bit of wire on the two terminals to continue the circuit so the fan was on constant.

then when you get the new switch simply remove the piece of wire and haypresto.

cooling systems work under pressure. I can't remember off the top of my head what it is, but water can go something like 1 degree past boiling point without boiling for every one 1psi in the air in the expansion tank. I'm probably well out with the figures but you catch my drift. opening the cap releases the pressure, and if the coolant happens to be over its normal boiling point (think water is 105 degrees when antifreeze etc is present) it will boil instantly. remember the thermostat doesn't open until about 91degrees.

short the switch with an insulated screwdriver etc and if the fan comes on you know its the swicth. I cut the wires and fit new spade connectors whenever I change a nova fan switch as they're normally quite corroded.
