new gearbox in, stuck in reverse tho? help

just put the 1.4 sr lump with 1.2 head and a cr box from a 1.3sr into my old 1.2 nova.

2 problems

1. when i connect the negative terminal to the bat the starter motot tries to turn the engine? i have obviously connected it wrong but can't figure out what is wrong.

2. when the starter motor turns the car lurches backwards, gear box stuck in reverse, even when sum1 presses firmly on the clutch nothing, it still lurches backwards.

it has taken like 2 days to get the box n block in, now this! help me please!

sounds like clutch is rusted

manually move the box outta reverse at the selector on top of the box

that should get it started at least

once u get the gear linkage aligned etc then stick it in 4th or 5th apply the footbrake hard and crank the engine with the clutch pedal pressed right down

that should free off the pressure plate

i done the same thing on mine....i think i solved it by taking the selector off of the top of the gearbox and putting it back in making sure that it goes back in, in reverse then you can just pop it out of reverse
