I'm changing the gearbox on a GSi which I bought for the pricely sum of ?250 :D
But I can't seem to get the bastard input shaft out, like it says in the haynes book of lies. It just won't budge! Anyone got any advice?
Cheers

why do u need to take ur in put shaft off?
have you removed the circlip and the spline driven bolt??
you dont strictly speaking need to remove the input shaft, but it helps
dare i ask why your removing the gsi gearbox?

Gearbox is shagged, makes crunchy noises and, er, doesn't do much else. I have removed the circlip and bolt. So it is possible to get it off without taking the input shaft out?
Has haynes lied to me again?!?
haynes always lies my friend lol
the thread inside the shaft is M8, the same as the clutch cable, screw taht in and give it a good yank, failing that get a slide hammer.

you shouldn't need to slide the input shaft away, if you unbolt the gear box mounts, and lower the g/box and engine an inch or so; then supporting the engine, lift/move the g/box away from the engine a lower to the floor.
you dont need to, but it just makes life a lot easier if it is moved out of the way.
all the ones ive worked on have had the input shaft just slide out with great ease.
