I have got a mate with a 1.2 Merit which he wants to make a little quicker. i haveread the 1.2 tuning guide and suggested this to him.

GTE/GSI downpipe/centre section/rear section. So the whole GTE exhaust system. Do you need the GTE exhaust manifold to fit the twin downpipes?

1.3SR inlet manifold and 1.3SR carb, so then he has a twin choke. Is this just a straight swap for the 1.2 items.

Keeping the 1.2 head.

I also suggested swapping the cam but i don't think it would be worth fitting. If he did swap the cam, which one do you recommend, i wa thinking either the 1.4sr OR Gte/GSi one.

Finally swapping the carb for a Weber 32/34DTML, this goes straight onto the 1.3SR inlet manifold doesn't it and then you just need the throttle cable, adaptor plate, and air filter.

So what sort of gains might this bring. The car is a 1.2 Merit, standard apart from a K&n and Rage backbox.
And finally are all the above mods easy to fit by me and him( moderate DIYers) with a Haynes manual to hand.

Cheers guys. :D

Sound, that should please my mate. That is around SR power isn't it.
Are all the above items easy to DIY fit using the advice of an haynes manual.
Cheers for your reply Ste.

in a 1.2 carb engine you can best use a 1.3 cam.
a friend of mine had also this cam in his 1.2 and it was a big different.

for more info:

Technicalsupport@corsa-novatuning.nl

he can give you more info about his old setup.

You'll need the whole GTE/GSi exhaust system including manifold and downpipe.

a mate and I are currently preforming this Conversion on his 1.2, all the parts are coming off another 1.2 so it does work and i can testify to that being a quick car. Only thing we're doing different is using a 1.3SR camshaft as opposed to the original setup on a standard 1.2 item.

As for DIY:

Inlet Manifold and twin Barrell carb will require water hoses to be spliced into the existing hoses for the auto choke. You could get all the necessary hoses from the same donor car as the carb and manifold though. Inlet manifold is a bit of a bitch to change whilst still in the car because access to the lower bolts is liited. If theyre stiff they can be a right nightmare.

Exhaust Manifold: so far our experience shos this to be a nightmare. Snapped all four bolst holding downpipe to manifold so watch out for this - use LOTS of WD40. Access to the bolts holding the manifold to the head is also a bit limited. You're going to need 1/4" drive sockets and tools to get in there.

Camshaft is best done with the cam carrier out of the car, which means removing the head bolts. (replace with new ones). If you do take it off, remove the sprocket/pulley whilst it's still in the car - that way you've got plenty of leverage as it's on VERY tight usually.

Hope that helps a bit.

i did the 2e3 twin-choke/1300 manifold thing and made a good noticable differnce around 3000 with the 2nd choke coming in.

i got a manual choke conversoin to use instead of the hassle of auto-choke (some people say they are unreliable and use more fuel).

I got it spare now, Pm me if ur interested.

I got it for ?66 new 12 months ago, obv i won't want near that price.

I will let you know if my mate wants the manual choke conversion.
Cheers for all your help guys.

My mate went to the local scrap yard and picked up this stuff:-
1.3SR inlet Manifold and Pierburg 2e3 carb-both in decent condition. But he is sticking with the autochoke for a while until he gets a weber.
And a 1.3SR cam in case he wants it in the future.

And he is gonna get a full GTE exhaust system from a knackered GTE tomorrow. Consisting of the outlet manifold/twin downpipes/and actual exhaust centre/rear sections.
Is that the complete system required. Does the GTE manifold go straight onto the 1.2 engine, so the twin downpipes can be used.

And he is gonna get a weber 32/34 sometime in the future.
Then him and me have the task of fitting the stuff over the weekend.

Have we got everything needed.
Thanks for all your replies :D

as for the downpipe to manifold studs/nuts/bolts whatever they are on the nova I can't remember. They are a problem on any car as they get heated right up and cooled constantly. before you start work, try separating them yourselves. if it messes up, anywhere with the right tools will remove them for a few quid/beer/the chance of future business. then get new ones from vaux.

it fits straight on, and from what you've said its everything you need. may as well get new rubber mounts from a motor factor if they look bad, and get new gaskets for when you put it all back together.
